Murphy vs Ford Betting: Tom Ford could shock former world champion at a tasty price
The second round of the Australian Goldfields Open begins on Wednesday in the final session of play and it starts with the match between Shaun Murphy and Tom Ford over the best of nine frames. The winner of this match will go into the quarter finals where they could meet Ding Junhui among others. Murphy will go into the match as the 4/9 favourite with Blue Square to make it through.
Shaun Murphy ended up in a real battle with Marcus Campbell in the opening round of the tournament. The former world champion shot into a 4-1 lead but then he lost his way a bit and ended up falling over the line to win 5-4. Of course winning is the main thing but he won’t have been too happy with how he won. The way he struggled to close out the match could be a sign of not winning too many 15 red matches in recent times.
Tom Ford was a lot more convincing in the first round against Dominic Dale. Although the two were locked at 2-2 at the interval Ford won all three frames after the break to run out a very comfortable 5-2 winner and move into this match. We all know Tom Ford’s potential but he hasn’t really shown us it in a big tournament so he’ll be hoping this is the week that he does that.
Shaun Murphy may not have this all his own way. He’ll have benefitted from getting over the line against Campbell but that’s all he’ll have taken out of that match and if he gives Ford the chances he gave Campbell he could come a cropper. Tom Ford scored well in his opening match against Dale, knocking in a 60 and a 94 and if he does that here then he can easily take care of the Six Red runner up.
