Murphy vs Campbell Betting: Shaun Murphy can continue his good recent form and beat the Wuxi semi finalist
Shaun Murphy went close to winning another tournament at the Six Red World Championship last week but he just found one too good for him for the second time in 2012 so the quest for an elusive title continues for him at the Australian Goldfields Open. He begins his tournament in Bendigo on Tuesday against the Wuxi Classic semi finalist Marcus Campbell and is the 4/9 favourite with Betfred to progress.
Shaun Murphy didn’t get his season off to the best of starts when he lost 5-1 in the opening round of the Wuxi Classic to Ken Doherty. However he shrugged that off to make the final of the Six Red World Championship last week thrashing Judd Trump in the semi final along the way. Although he didn’t win the tournament he played some really good stuff which should have given him plenty of confidence heading into Australia this week.
Marcus Campbell made the semi finals of the Wuxi Classic but I wouldn’t say he played well at any stage. He beat Mark Williams in the quarter final of that event in one of the worst standards of snooker I’ve ever seen. He then went to Thailand last week for the Six Red World Championship but he never played very well and went out in the group stage so he will be looking to find his best snooker this week.
If Marcus Campbell doesn’t find his best snooker then I think he will be beaten quite heavily. In the end even if he does find his best snooker then Murphy is still likely to be too good but even though he got to the semi final of the Wuxi Classic if Campbell plays like that I expect him to be seen off with ease here. Murphy looks to be cueing nicely and no matter how Campbell plays I expect Murphy to win here.
