Men's 400m Hurdles Betting: Javier Culson looks an excellent price to confirm his number one ranking
The highlight of Monday night inside the Olympic Stadium is the final of the Men’s 400m hurdles with all eyes on Dai Greene to see if he can add the Olympic title to the world title that he won in Daegu last year. There are a few contenders to the throne though in what is expected to be a thrilling race. Javier Culson is the 11/8 favourite for the gold with Skybet.
Dai Greene had a shocker of a semi final but he has been a bit fortunate with the lane draw and that could have given him a route back to the medals should he have the legs. His semi final looked more of a technical issue rather than a lack of legs and he was also caught out by a blitz from Felix Sanchez which previously showed no signs of occurring.
Felix Sanchez put the fly in the ointment in the semi finals and he qualified fastest for this final but he produced a huge season’s best and backing it up will now be the order of the day. Javier Culson wasn’t too far behind in a different semi final though and he is clearly the world number one this year with four of the fastest times of the year coming into the event.
Felix Sanchez, the 2004 champion, produced one of the fastest times we’ve seen but he was still only two hundredth of a second clear of what Culson produced in tricky conditions at Crystal Palace last month and I really do believe the bookmakers have overreacted as far as he is concerned. Angelo Taylor, the defending champion, can’t be ruled out of this race as he too ran an excellent semi final and his flat speed is superb but his technique over the obstacles could cost him too much time.
I really think Javier Culson has a fast time in him in this final and the fact he is two lanes inside Felix Sanchez is to his advantage as he can clock him all the way. I’ve still got a feeling Dai Greene will be a factor in this final too though. He’s in lane 3 and has all the main protagonists outside him so he is almost in a perfect position despite his semi final. Taylor will go out fast on his outside and will give Greene a target that at a big price it is worth seeing if he can hit but the main bet on this final for me has to be Javier Culson.
