Men's 200m Betting: Churandy Martina is running well enough to be the best without Blake and Bolt
The men’s 100 metres was one of the most thrilling sprint events in Olympic history and the 200m promises to be just as exciting as the same two men – Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake – battle it out for the gold medal. Technically Blake is probably the better 200m runner so Usain Bolt will need to be at his best to beat his training partner and defend his Olympic title. Bolt is 2/9 favourite with Skybet.
It would be one of the upsets of all time if one of the Jamaican speedsters doesn’t win this title but at 2/9 Bolt is no value and you would have to be pretty sure in Yohan Blake to back him at what is a relatively cramped 4/1 although I suspect he will get shorter as the competition goes on should he progress. However the best value might come in the market without Bolt and Blake.
Frenchman Christophe Lemaitre is the favourite for that market and he skipped the 100m where he would have made the final at least I would have thought, to prepare for this 200m. He will come into the event fresh as a daisy and he is the third fastest in the field over this distance this year so he will fancy his chances of a bronze medal if not a bit more.
However the man I like in this market is the European champion Churandy Martina. Martina has been running very well this year and has dipped under 20.10 three times this season. He comes into this event off the back of a very creditable sixth placed finish in that 100m so he clearly has the raw speed to be competitive but I believe 200m is his better event. At 3/1 I think he is decent value to win the bronze medal behind Bolt and Blake.
