Melzer vs Querrey Betting: Do not underestimate the tough Austrian in Toronto

The encounter between Sam Querrey and Jurgen Melzer should get plenty of attention, as we are going to see two great top 40 players in action and I just do not understand the reason for having Sam Querrey at such short odds. He can currently be backed at 1.33 with Pinnacle and that is just too low in all honesty. He is a great player on these hard courts and Jurgen Melzer is not in his best form, but there is just no way I would be having him at this price.

The Austrian is indeed a very strange player. On one hand, he can lose to guys like Ito or Lacko. On the other hand, he can then go on and defeat the likes of Wawrinka or Lopez. What is the reason for that shaky form is anybody's guess, but I would expect him to do well in this part of the season. He is fully capable of beating better players on these hard courts - just remember his run in Memphis from February, where he managed to beat Isner, Stepanek and Raonic in a row and claim the title.

Sam Querrey has bounced back recently with some nice performances and that includes a tournament victory in Los Angeles, but it probably needs to be pointed out that he only really needed to beat Xavier Malisse over there, since the field was rather weak. He then moved to Washington and lost against the first serious opponent, Aleksandr Dolgopolov, without putting up much resistance. All of that probably makes him a favourite in this contest, but I would say that Melzer has a better chance than the odds are suggesting, so I am going to side with him.

Back Jurgen Melzer to beat Sam Querrey for a 2/10 stake at 3.66 with Pinnacle
