Matosevic vs Darcis Betting: Marinko Matosevic should be able to out-muscle the Belgian
The horrible English weather has complicated matters in Eastbourne, but it seems that we might get to see some ATP matches on Friday. And I believe that there is one player that can actually benefit from that delay and use it to his advantage today. Marinko Matosevic has already managed to defeat some tough players in Eastbourne, but I was afraid of backing him against Steve Darcis. After all, he has played a lot of tennis recently (he actually had to go through the qualifying rounds in Eastbourne) and you simply never know when it comes to these relatively unproven players.
However, fatigue is not going to be an issue after that rest day, so I am willing to to back him today at the price that is being offered by Pinnacle. First of all, the Australian has a much better serve than his Belgian counterpart. That is obviously a decent advantage when it comes to grass, especially since Darcis is not that strong on return. His movement is not perfect and he is not going to win many longer rallies, but his shots are very powerful and fairly accurate, so he should be able to shorten most rallies (yes, that is essentially the same argument as I have used in the Paire-Ito match yesterday).
Darcis is basically a decent all-round player, but he has no special weapons and his season has been very average so far, so I would not want to back him against a guy that is trying to establish himself on the main tour this year. The Belgian would have the edge on a slower surface, but Matosevic should be able to do the job on grass.
