Liverpool vs Everton Betting: Merseyside semi final could go all the way to penalties to find a winner
Half of Merseyside will descend on London on Saturday lunchtime as Everton and Liverpool meet each other in the FA Cup semi final at Wembley. Blue meets red at the national stadium for the first time since the 1989 FA Cup final so this will be a historic match and one which both sides will be confident of winning. Liverpool have already won silverware at Wembley this season having won the Carling Cup there in February.
Liverpool are the marginal favourites to make it back to Wembley for the final next month. They are 4/5 with Stan James to win this semi final by any method but they come into the match needing to field third choice goalkeeper Brad Jones after the two in front of him in the pecking order, Jose Reina and Alexander Doni have both been sent off in recent matches. Steven Gerrard is expected to return to the side having been rested at Blackburn in midweek.
Everton come into this semi final in much the better form of the two sides and in Nikica Jelavic they have found the goalscorer they have spent a long time looking for. He is a natural finisher and with everything else in place I would expect good times to come for Everton over the next few seasons. Jelavic will return to the starting line up here as will Tim Cahill and Leighton Baines but Steven Pienaar will miss out as he’s cup tied.
I think this will be a really tight semi final because it is basically all both sides have left to play for this season. Liverpool will probably settle the better in this match because they have played at Wembley this season while Everton will be dangerous once they’ve settled. I really wouldn’t be surprised if this match went all the way as I don’t see much between the two sides and it could just be worth covering both sides to win on penalties.
