The Bet365 Lennox Stakes is a race for three year olds and upwards over 7 furlongs, the race is best known as just The Lennox Stakes but the name was changed in 2010 when Bet365 took over the sponsorship. It was introduced to the Glorious Goodwood festival in the year 2000, and after three years as a Group 3 race it was upgraded to its current Group 2 status.

Although the race is open to all horses above three years old, history suggests it’s wise to just concentrate on those younger than six, with the 3,4 and 5 year olds dominating the race since its inception. It was becoming a trend that improving three year olds were best suited to the conditions of the race but Lord Shanakill put an end to that in 2010 when winning at the age of four.

Only three favourites have managed to win the race. Iffraaj back in 2006, Richard Hannon's Strong Suit obliged in 2011 and Sir Henry Cecil's Chachamaidee obliged for favourite backers in 2012 but there have been a couple of surprise results along the way.

The 7 furlong trip is a specialist distance and maybe this has a lot to do with certain horses under achieving, with those stepping back in trip perhaps finding this a bit on the sharp side. Five out of the last seven winners had won over 7 furlongs in decent company before coming here.

In the twelve year history of the race only one horse has won it twice; Nayyir for Gerard Butler in 2002 and 2003, however a host of trainers have won the Lennox Stakes twice, namely Marcus Tregoning, Godolphin, Richard Hannon and Sir Henry Cecil.
