Leeds vs Wigan Betting: Leeds can make Wigan work very hard to get back to Wembley
Wembley is within touching distance for four sides this weekend as the Challenge Cup semi finals take place over the next 48hrs. The semi final weekend begins with a repeat of last year’s final between Leeds and Wigan at the Galpharm Stadium in Huddersfield. Wigan won on that occasion so Leeds will be looking for their revenge in this match. Despite that it is Wigan who are 2/7 with Bet365 to win the match inside 80 minutes.
Wigan come into this match off the back of a solid win over Wakefield last weekend. They won that match without Josh Charnley but he returns for the defending Challenge Cup champions here. Michael McIlorum, Jeff Lima and Paul Prescott also return to the side for this semi final but recent signing Matty Smith is ineligible for this match. Pat Richards and Thomas Leuluai remain on the sidelines and will miss out in this game.
Leeds are the reigning Super League champions so they know a few things about winning big matches and they come into this match off the back of their best form of the season. They beat Hull FC last weekend which was their fourth win on the bounce after an inconsistent season. They will welcome Jamie Jones-Buchanan and Kylie Leuluai back from being rested last week but Richard Moore misses out. Brent Webb also misses out.
The last time these two sides met Wigan ran riot winning 50-8 at Headingley but this one will be a lot closer I’m sure of that. Wigan have lost a key player or two since then and Leeds have finally got their act together. Last year’s final between these two finished 28-18 to Wigan but I see this being more low scoring and even a bit tighter than that. It’s a semi final. It will all get left on the line here and while my head says Wigan will win this I don’t think they’ll cover a 12pt headstart.
