Lee vs Cope Betting: Stephen Lee should prove too strong for Cope in the Australian Open last 16

Stephen Lee edged his way into the second round of the Australian Goldfields Open out in Bendigo, Australia and his reward for making it through is a last 16 clash with former top 16 player Jamie Cope over the best of nine frames. Mark Selby is one of a couple of players who could be awaiting the winner of this match in the quarter final, a match Lee is 4/7 with BetVictor to win.

Stephen Lee surprisingly found himself 3-0 down to Rory McLeod in the opening round of the tournament but he bounced back to lead 4-3 before finally getting over the line in a deciding frame which he managed to dominate. That maintained his excellent run of 2012 but he knows he will probably have to play better in this match even though he did knock in a 105 break in his win over Rory McLeod in that first round.

Jamie Cope had a very good win over Ricky Walden in the first round. Walden has kicked the season off in excellent mood so to beat him, and beat him from 4-3 down is a very good achievement for the ‘Shotgun’. Cope won his opening match in the Wuxi Classic a couple of weeks ago but then lost 5-0 to Mark Selby in the next round so he’ll be hoping history doesn’t repeat itself in this match.

I’m not so convinced Lee will win this 5-0 but I do think he will win the match. The form he’s in at the minute is untrue and his all round game is likely to be too much for Cope to handle. Jamie Cope is very much a potter but Stephen Lee can tie up any player with his safety game and then when he gets in he can still pile up the points as he showed against McLeod. I just think Lee will prove too good here and win with something to spare.
