Great Britain vs South Korea Betting: Great Britain's men have the pace in attack to move into the football semi final
Great Britain’s men’s football team made it into the knockout stages of the Olympic Football tournament courtesy of winning Group A and their reward for that is a quarter final against South Korea at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, the venue where they beat Uruguay in their final group match. South Korea were runners up to Mexico in Group B and face the hosts here. Great Britain are 11/10 with BetVictor to progress inside the 90 minutes.
Great Britain’s women’s exit on Friday night will have served as a wake up call to Stuart Pearce’s men and that can only be a good thing. Britain know if they win this match they will have two cracks at a medal of some colour and that should be a good inspiration for them. GB have got better with each match they have played and with Scott Sinclair and Daniel Sturridge starting now and causing problems there’s enough to believe they will go well.
Matches involving South Korea in this tournament have generally been very tight. Korea have played out two goalless draws in the competition already which suggests they are well drilled defensively. It also suggests they are light in attacking areas despite having Arsenal forward Park Chu-Young in their squad for this tournament. Korea like to keep it tight and hit teams on the break but their defence will be tested to the full here.
I think Britain has what it takes up front to break down this Korean defence. Bellamy, Sturridge and Sinclair were all in excellent form in the group phase of the tournament and with Tom Cleverley and Aaron Ramsey supporting from midfield GB will get a lot of men into the box and even at 11/10 I think they are value to win this match against a side who struggle for incisiveness going forward and who have given the ball away a lot in the two games I’ve seen of theirs. You can’t give the ball away against this GB side with the quality they have in forward areas and get away with it so I’ll take the GB men’s team to make up for the disappointment of the women’s team on Friday night by progressing to the semi final inside the 90 minutes.
