Great Britain vs Netherlands Betting: British women can produce their best to make the hockey semi finals
Monday is a pivotal day for the Great Britain women’s hockey team as they play their final group game against unbeaten Netherlands at the Riverside Arena on Monday night. It is possible that GB could be through to the semi finals by the time they play this match but should China beat Japan earlier in the day then Britain will need at least a draw here to make sure they go through. The Netherlands are 8/11 favourites with Blue Square to win this match.
Great Britain started this competition in excellent form winning their first three matches with a fair bit in hand but their defeat to China last time out has left their semi final hopes hanging in the balance. Britain are still without their captain Kate Walsh who broke a jaw in the first match when she was walloped by a loose stick but Crista Cullen has stepped up strongly on penalty corners.
The Netherlands are the defending champions in this tournament and widely regarded as the best side in the world but Britain can take some comfort from the fact that the Dutch don’t have to win and that they did lose in the World Cup final to Argentina last year. This hasn’t been the most dominant Dutch side so far in these games as they’ve only won their last three games by one goal so they haven’t been destroying sides.
Britain will have to be at their very best here but if they are I see a draw as a possibility in this match. As I say the Dutch haven’t been destroying sides and roared on by a totally partisan crowd the British women can be inspired to success. Britain were rolling sides over earlier in the competition and they do have goals in them and a couple of goals here should be enough to secure a famous draw if not win and send them into the KO stages.
