Fu vs Burnett Betting: Jamie Burnett can build on his big recent wins with another win over Marco Fu
The last 16 of the Australian Goldfields Open concludes on Thursday with the last six matches in the round all played in the one day. The day begins with a clash between two men who are currently outside the top 16 in the world rankings in Marco Fu and Jamie Burnett. Although both men are out of the top 16 they will realise the opportunity they have to take a significant boost in the rankings here.
Marco Fu comes into this match as the 4/5 favourite with Stan James. He came past another non top 16 player in the first round of this tournament when he beat Joe Perry 5-1 earlier in the week. He scored heavily and generally looked very good in the process against an opponent to fired in a century so was playing well himself. The one issue I personally have with Fu is that he doesn’t score consistently enough but if he can find that consistency in his scoring then he’ll go well.
Jamie Burnett is proving to be a bit of a giantkiller at the minute. He sent Neil Robertson packing from the Wuxi Classic a couple of weeks ago and then on Wednesday he knocked the world number one Mark Selby out of this tournament in a decent display. In the Wuxi Classic he never followed up his good first round win so that is something he will be looking to address here.
Burnett’s win over Robertson could have been described as a bit of a fluke but he stopped any questions of a fluke with his win over Selby and showed that his form is real, it is genuine and he will be hard to beat here. Marco Fu came through against Joe Perry but I think he’ll need to play better in this match to win. That’s not impossible but we’ve not really seen the best of Marco Fu for a while and at odds against the value call is definitely the Scot here.
