Default Wsop 2009 Variant Challenge

I'll keep it brief.

Given up on qualifying for this year's WSOP. I'm not good enough and I don't have the cash to buy in directly

So I have a plan ... a grand master plan so to speak

Over the course of the next 12 months I aim to build a bankroll that covers my entry and expenses for at least 1 event at next year's WSOP.

Yes, same quest for glory as millions of others ..... so why am I different ??

Finally I have accepted the truth ..... Hold 'Em is not a game I do that well at !! So instead I am going to stick to games I have more success at - the lowball variants - Omaha Hi/Lo, 7 Stud Hi/Lo, Razz, HOSE and HORSE.

I will start with the micro tables and work my way up - hopefully this way I will learn some things about my game and improve as a player in all disciplines - and have some fun along the way !

Some rules for month 1;
1) Starting bankroll on Stars of $55 and my due rakeback (about $29) on Full Tilt. NO MORE DEPOSITING !
2) Buy-In for SnG and MTT no greater than $2 or 2% of my bankroll
3) No cash games
4) All results to be posted on the forum - if I go bust, you will see it here !!
5) An evaluation at the end of each month.

So, wish me luck. Any input gratefully appreciated - this is work in progress so any comment valid

First game(s) tonight

Wish you every success at this.Bear in mind that as you go up in the levels,there are less fish playing in them compared to holdem but you have a while before you get to that stage.

Think you'll have to play ring games on these to work up any type of potential WSOP Buy-in.

But good luck anyway

You might be right there. Quite possibly further down the line. Even at low stakes I can probably earn more $$ quicker so I will most likely introduce cash games in a month or two.

To begin with I guess it's more about spending a month grinding it out at some low stakes SnG, practice playing some solid poker (as above you can see I suffer badly from impatience) and manage my bankroll better.

My first goal is one of the $1500 events (PL Omaha8 is my favourite), plus flights and hotel for one week ..... would $4000 cover that ??

Step one is to double my starting bankroll $55 + $39 .... round it up to $100 - so $200 by end of June.
Playing at such low stakes I think this will be tough, but possible I think .... is this too ambitious ??

About $3000 needed altogether then? That's "only" about $10 a day - keep that in mind - should help the patience/discipline - you dont need to win a lot every day......pick your spots....

EDIT Probably more applicable to Cash play than tournaments - sorry

Dont be sorry There's a point to getting input from others

In terms of good bankroll management, any recommendations for level to start with on a $50 bankroll ?
How many BB should I be buying in for ?

IF you're playing STTs, and it's more money than you could replace, then you should never buy in for more than about 5% of your bankroll. So with $50, you should look to play for a maximum of $2.50. You should reevaluate this before every game you play and be prepared to move down.

If you believe you are beating a level well, you want to take a bigger risk (of going bust), then you can probably "gamble" with up to 10% of your bankroll. (So up to $5 STTs with a $50 bank).

If you're talking MTTs, then I think you should probably be looking at never buying in for more than about 2% of your bankroll (though I'm less sure of conventionally accepted numbers for this).

For cash games, you probably want to look at similar numbers to STTs. It can be legitimate to buy in short or buy in deep, but you need to be aware that your stack size should have a significant impact on the way you play your game.

GAf these are all limit games (i presume no PL in there?) - so $100 would buy you into 0.50/$1 quite comfortably - and making $10 a day at those limts is attainable (But a little tedious)

So, couple things today;

1) Dont know how I got it wrong but the planned freerolls on Stars didnt take place disappointing
2) Broke the rules already and played a $20 Hi-Lo MTT

Hopefully learnt my lesson as I didnt cash so basically gave myself a $22 handicap for the day.

Apart from that it was a positive session, mixed results but back to my starting bankroll so consider it successful
