| I am from spain ... and i dont know what happen that spain always fails in 1/4 . 1934 world cup 1/4 Italy 2-1 Spain (1-1 regular time) 1986 world cup 1/4Spain 1-1 Belgium (spain lost in penalties) 1994 world cup 1/4 Italy 2-1 Spain 1996 euro 1/4 England 0-0 Spain (spain lost in penalties) 2000 euro 1/4 France 2-1 Spain 2002 World cup Korea 0-0 Spain (spain lost in penalties) ...and , in 1986 against Belgium , 1996 against England and 2002 against Korea was 22-june , tomorrow 22 june , bad date for spain. but the value here is in italy , spain was very good against Russia , but against sweden spain have several problems in defense , and if italy score first goal , bye bye Spain. Italy have a winning mentality ; spain poor mentality in this kind of matches , even Gatusso and pirlo are out for tomorrow. so i gonna bet against my country and back italy at 3.20 stake 6/10. | Onto the knockout stages now . Spain vs Italy . Spainish jinx to the date 22June has cost them dearly on many occasions . Would it be the same tomorrow ? Spain has been doing well in this tournament so far and are the last first placed team left in the competition (The rest all packed up and went home ) .....can they defeat the Very Lucky Italy Team ( I say lucky because they should have been sent home by romania ) ? Italy have escaped from the jaws of elimination and should now be a very very dangerous side . The italians are masters of knockout stages and this would by no means be an easy task for spain to prevail over them . Despite the talent all around the spainsh team , i can't see spain doing it . Once again , Spain to get knocked out at this unlucky date . Italy to progress . ![]()

| My pick for tomorrow: Spain-Italy So far in three quarter-final games all three "dogs" advanced to the semi-finals with great value in the odds for Turkey and Russia (good odds on Germany as well but not as good). I would love to see Spain advance as I much more like their offensive football but we've all seen this "movie" far many times before...Spain failing and Italy playing tight defense and just looking to score one single goal either from one single counter attack or from a set piece during the entire game... ...I think their (Italy) luck and their momentum got back when keeper Buffon defended that penalty from Mutu in the game against Romania. That moment is very important IMO. Also, Luca Toni is fighting hard and playing well but missing far too many goals upfront. It's about time he gets his scoring touch back. My pick: Italy to advance from the quarter-finals (2.10); Good luck! JC

| Spain vs Italy, 22.06.2008 at 20:45 In the match between equal rivals, where details decide, better physical shape of Aragones’ players can be crucial. After a disastrous opening defeat against Netherlands, Italy managed to get hold of the second round from the "death group": they won France in a knock-out match. This boosted their morale sky-high though they price was also, Gattuso's absence is not so much of a handicap as Pirlo's is. The creator of the national squad and Milan play will be missed in the squad that shows lack of creativity. The players form Iberian Peninsula are now used to taking responsibility. It is a step towards higher quality and experienced Aragones knows that very well. Spain will probably be dominant in ball possession and try to use their technical superiority. The speed of Spanish players could decide this match, they recently won Italy in a friendly game and it seems that they are well aware of their rivals’ flaws. Aragones doesn't want tp put pressure on his squad; precisely the high expectations were often the biggest enemy of this squad. Italian media are speculating about how Chiellini and Panucci will be able to resist Spanish attackers. Cannavaro's experience would be priceless. Italians will probably try with a somewhat defensive formation, using Ambrosini’s and De Rossi’s physical strength to cut down space and exert pressure thus preventing their rivals’ domination in ball possession. Italian defenders will try to stop Torres from taking the ball and turning to their net. Spain, generally do worse than Italy in big competitions. It has been a long time since these two squads have met in big competition, the last time was in World Cup 1994 in USA; Azzurri celebrated 2:1 in the finals. 0-0 correct score. ![]() Tradition: TOTAL OF 27 GAMES – 9 Italy wins, 10 draws, 8 Spain wins 9 GAMES IN SPAIN – 5 Spain win, 3 draws, 1 Italy win 12 GAMES IN ITALY– 4 Italy wins, 6 draws, 2 Spain wins NEUTRAL GROUND - 6 GAMES – 4 Italy wins, 1 draw, 1 Spain win EURO 1980 – Spain vs. Italy 0:0 EURO 1988 - Italy vs. Spain 1:0 Last 5 Spain matches: 18.06.2008 GROUP D Greece-Spain 1:2 14.06.2008 GROUP D Sweden-Spain 1:2 10.06.2008 GROUP D Spain-Russia 4:1 04.06.2008 FRIEND Spain-USA 1:0 31.05.2008 FRIEND Spain-Peru 2:1 Last 5 Italy matches: 17.06.2008 GROUP C France - Italy 0:2 13.06.2008 GROUP C Italy - Romania 1:1 09.06.2008 GROUP C Netherlands - Italy 3:0 30.05.2008 FRIEND Italy - Belgium 3:1 26.03.2008 FRIEND Spain - Italy 1:0 ![]()

| Hehe. An interesting statistic about Spain's fortunes over the years from the News of the World's Lee McCreery. "Spookily over the years the Spanish have lost THREE penalty shoot-outs on June 22 - against Belgium at the 1986 World Cup, versus England at Euro '96 and to South Korea in 2002. Bet365 go 10/1 history repeats itself tonight - but I'm sticking with Spain to nick it before spot-kicks are required." Italy to win via penalty shootout is a 10/1 shot with Bet365 and Boylesports (it's a criminal 17/2 over at totesport). Gianluigi Buffon is 12/1 with Bet365 to be named Carlsberg/UEFA Technical Team's 'Man of the Match' (Iker Casillas is 16/1 with Blue Square/888Sport). ...as a word of caution Rustu was imo surprisingly not named Man of the Match for Turkey against Croatia as Hamit Altintop got it instead. http://www.euro2008.uefa.com/fanzone/motm/match=301700/index.html http://www.euro2008.uefa.com/fanzone/motm/index.html I'd like to see Spain win this match AND in style but Italy are resilient and even without Pirlo and Gattuso could have just enough to stifle Spain who are more allergic to quarter-finals than England are! ![]() The last three days have shown that football isn't played on paper. It's surely been a complete landmine for favourites backers whilst the shrewdies and the naysayers have been cleaning up and filling their boots. I've no idea if the bookies are up or down over the past three days though but I'd assume theyed generally be up. |

| Italy v Spain Quarter-final 3: (June 21) Italy have come back from the brink of elimination from Euro 2008 outright betting, rebounding from a 3-0 opening defeat to Holland, to book their place in the quarter-finals, after beating France 2-0 on Tuesday night. It was a tense night, as both the French and Italians fate was out of their hands, but Romania lost to Holland, giving Italy passage to the final eight, where they meet Spain. The Spaniards will be deserved favourites for the clash, having topped Euro 2008 Group D, but must overcome their tendency to fall short when burdened with expectation. Spain’s outstanding 4-1 win over Russia had many people touting them as potential winners, and put David Villa to the top of the Golden Boot charts after his hat-trick. However in their next two games it was last minute winners that sealed Spain’s place in the quarter finals, as David Villa saw off Sweden in the 90th minute, while against holders Greece their second string team had to wait till the 88th minute to secure victory. Italy have had a more troubled path to the quarter’s following their opening defeat to Holland, as they could only follow that up with a draw against outsiders Romania, in a game they nearly lost. Gianluigi Buffon was the hero as he saved Adrian Mutu’s penalty to give his team an outside chance of qualifying in their final game against France. A professional Dutch victory over Romania helped Italy through after they overcame an ailing French team, although it came at a cost, as influential midfield pair Gennaro Gatusso and Andre Pirlo were both booked and miss this quarter final match. Key Match Facts: Spain are unbeaten in 19 matches inc a 9 game winning streak. | Both sides have strenghts and weaknesses. In the group stages we saw Spainish strenghts and Italian weakneses and only glimpes of Italian strenghts and Spanish weaknesses. In this game I think the Italians will show more of their best side and because of that expose problems in the Spanish team. Spain's weaknesses are in defence (mostly), midfield (a little) and belief in how they play (a little). Italy have been blunt in attack and shaky in defence. Like some of you have said, there is a lot of quality in the Italian side I think we will see it tonight. Bet: Italy to win. 8/10 @ 3.25 May the luck be with you! ![]()

| Spain v Italy We have seen Portugal, Croatia & Netherlands crash out of the tournament. These were teams that started brightly but lost steam at the crucial moment. Germany, in my opinion, was lucky. But then, the Greeks rode on their luck to win the tournament last time. The Croatians underestimated Turkey and paid for that. And Russia, was missing Andrei Arshavin in the group matches and he returned just in time to upset the Dutch. Tonight, will Spain lose steam and allow Italy to sneak into the semifinals? Yes, they will. I think it's a mistake for teams to rest their players in the last group matches even though qualification is secured. Players need continuity & momentum to follow them through a tournament like this. We have seen what happened to Portugal, Croatia & Netherlands. I believe the rested players are not the same players they were when they come back. That aside, let's look at the teams. Attacking-wise, the Spaniards look more potent compared to the Italians. Defensively, the Italians look more assured even though they had a very poor showing against the Dutch. But, by a slight margin, their defence is more solid than the Spaniards. The Spaniards looked uncomfortable dealing with Sweden and the weaknesses were evident. In midfield, I was not impressed with Xabi and Iniesta against the Swedes. They were poor and made countless stray passes. The Italian midfield, we all know, are hardworking midfielders, so they may just come up tops in this battle. Finally, the goalkeepers. Casillas is clumsy & prone to making mistakes. Buffon is more solid & experienced. This match will be settled in regulation 90minutes. The Italians will score early and keep it tight. | Italy should be buzzing after they got through the group stage, the pressure's more on Spain at the moment, they are expected to deliver, With both Gattuso and Pirlo suspended, Donadoni maybe forced into playing a more expansive game, with Ambrosini likely to sit. Luca Toni has had an absolute mare of a competition so far, but an encouraging sign is he's in the right positions and its only a matter of time till he strikes, We will find out how good Spain are today, yes they thumped Russia and the reserves brushed aside Greece, but looking back to the Sweden game, they were not so sparkling basically because the Swedes were well organised at the back,an area you'd expect an Italian team to be strong in. Italy WIN @ 9/4 skyb Luca Toni FGS @ 13/2 bluesq(carries on into ET if 0-0 after 90mins) |

| The value here is in Italy to qualify at Even money. Spain were impressive in beating Russia 4-1 but still looked uncertain at the back and showed weaknesses in wins over Sweden and Greece. Italy are fortunate to even still be in the tournament but were impressive in beating France and if Toni had his shooting boots on, it could have been a cricket score so confidence is high. They always perform in major tournaments whereas Spain impress before crashing out in these type of games. If Toni has as many chances as he did have the other night, Italy will win as he will put at least 1 away.

| dj purry I don't understand you much, but anayway... I don't like Toni. Don't like his look when he shoot 5 meters over the goal... Well I know Italy has had much of luck over those years, but some day that will stop. Hope that day will be today. Spain is good team, better than Italy and my bet will be Spain to qualify. |
