Changing odds - help needed (please!....)

I'm looking for your help.

My father asked me prior to the start of the tournament to bet the following:

Croatia to qualify to the next round (i.e finish 1st or 2nd)
Russia to qualify to the next round (Same again)

He asked me to put this on as a double so that if one team did not qualify then he would not win.

Does to a stupid mix up I never managed to put this bet on.

I want to know now what the odds of this happening were prior to the first ball being kicked.

I want to know how much each of the teams were priced at so I can give him the correct winnings despite me not placing the bet!

I think Croatia were 8/15 to qualify and Russia were 6/5 at various betting companies. So for every £1 pound you'd have put on you'd get a return of around £3.37.

is it worth sticking some money on russia to qualify? this way if you lose then the bet would have anyway - if you win then you havent used as much of your own money as you would otherwise.

does that make sense?

the prices for a croatian qualification are through. Croatia qualified and the market is closed.

Russia to qualify is around 2.6 at the moment (gamebookers). Croatia were around 2.20 or less imo. That means 5,72 in odds. 1 Euro you gave you get 4,72 euro back ( or your father ).

But better you tell him the mistake and give him 2 or 3 bear crates. What would you do if he want a betting slip?

Ok i'm lost surely predicting Russia and Croatia would both qualify to the QF's would see a better return than 3 or 4 to 1???

No, odds are not as good as you think on these bets mate. Dont know Coratia but would of thought they were around the 8/15 mark (as someone has stated) and I know Russia were 6/5 with Coral as I had a bet on this so the double is not that good odds. Bookies dont give money away mate

Leftpeg, my odds i gave you to qualify were from the racing post preview of Euro 2008, so is reliable information and the amount i worked out for you is correct for every pound you'd have put on. Croatia were odds on to qualify but that is not surprising considering they had Austria and Poland in their group. If your dad was expecting around £90 from £5 then he would have wanted Croatia and Russia as group winners not just to qualify so you would not owe him as Russia didn't win the group. Croatia were 12/5 to win the group and Russia were around 9/2 to win the group and off £5 you would have got £93.50 back from these odds. And before you ask again, yes these odds are correct!!!
