Default Cheltenham 2008

Awesome! we have our very own Cheltenham site for this years meeting.

The meeting runs from Tuesday 11th March until Friday 14th March.

This section will consist of a sticky for each race to be run with the title, time & date of the race. All discussions regarding the race should go under the single thread.

This gives us the chance to post our views on each race without getting clogged up in ATR section. I will be modding the section & Mowgli has agreed to help with the race previews.

At this time, please feel free to contribute once the threads have been set up.

Are there any previews from Pricewise and other similar pundits and pro punters? There were nice videos on RP website last year. I will appriciate collecting some thoughts before I decide what to back and what not to back

Phil, i have put 2 horses up for the arkle so hopefully i will see them in your write up, also can you look at Ring The Boss & tell me what you think. Was probably the eye catcher over the weekend on its chasing debut going down a nk to Kruguyrova. Seems to go on any ground & slammed Breedesbreeze & wingman earlier in the season at Sandown over hurdles.

sorry forgot to add to the above he had returned from an absence of almost 26 months when chasing home silverburn in a grade 1 novice chase demonstrating he has no ill effects from the foot problem that had been holding back and his trainer wouldnt put him in the world hurdle unless he was up to it

Yep. really pleased at the way its going. Lots of great analysis & opinions being shared.

Not sure about Aintree as although it has 3 or 4 decent races, the emphasis falls mainly on the Grand National but will consider it if we can.

in Festival forecast5th March 2008
Prestbury Park is going to get wet. In the space of 24 hours, weather forecasters significantly altered their predictions and, with potentially large quantities of rain now expected to fall on the track, artificial watering may have come to an end.
A decision on whether the whole of Cheltenham will be irrigated before the Festival starts was due to be made tomorrow (Thursday) morning, but clerk of the course Simon Claisse, who on Tuesday had predicted that taps would again be turned on, was today minded to let nature take its course.
Claisse, who described the Old and cross-country courses as good with good to soft places and the New course as good to soft with good places, said: "That may now be it for watering. All the forecasts I have seen seem to be saying the same thing, including that given to us by John Kettley, who has upped his forecast for rain between Friday and Tuesday. As a result, we may now take the decision not to do another bout of watering, although we have a third option, which would be to put a small quantity on the quicker parts of the Old and cross-country courses."
A Met Office spokesman on Wednesday predicted 4mm to 5mm of rain in the early hours of Friday morning with light showers due to follow through the day.
"Prolonged and quite heavy rain" could fall on Cheltenham on Saturday, with at least 10mm to 15mm on the cards. Sunday has the potential to be even worse with "showers, showers and more showers" a distinct possibility, while rain through Sunday night will, if the forecasts are correct, give way to wintry showers on Monday afternoon.
Things are not expected to get better when the racing starts as Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are already expected to be both wet and chilly, with temperatures not likely to hit double figures.

Should Nicholls be worried at all

No super Saturday today with 1 winner from 7 horses.

Alan King had 2 from 8 with another beaten in a photo

Should be an interesting week

Its the usual C4 propaganda, the other Saturday he had 15 runners & 3 winners all odds on. C4 said "Nicholls does it for the punters again", the stats showed a heavy loss on the day.

Yes, he does get it right some weeks but not as many as you would think.

I might just have a play in the trainer market this year, Alan King has a chance of at least 3 winners & no doubt Pipe can pick up a couple also. I think it will be between them 3, apart from Howard Johnson of course who could easily have 2 winners.
