| Denmark-Hungary-Belgium-Czech Rep-Spain-Turkey-Germany are certainly good value for bankers come Wednesday - these teams are either playing 3rd rate opponents so bad you wouldn't even back them playing a random selection of 11 men picked off the streets or they simply need the points urgently. Andorra, N.Ireland, San Marino, Luxembourg, Faroe Islands(ok they've improved a wee bit and only lost narrowly to Germany in Germany but I reckon class will tell tomorrow after the intense criticism the Germans have come in for following their poor showing at the weekend) simply do not in anyway trouble Belgium, Spain, Hungary, Denmark and Germany respectively. Turkey would certainly be keen to consolidate their 'lead' at the top(nevermind they've played a game more than England) and should dispatch off Macedonia with relative ease while Czech Rep should also have little trouble beating Moldova. Would probably add Sweden and Italy seperately to those bankers. Quite simply, Sweden are in stunning form of late having just beaten San Marino 6-0 at the weekend(well, might not be mightily impressive here, but it's been a long time since San Marino lost so convincingly :p ) and surely, they wouldn't want to relinquish the chance to go top in the group with a win over Poland, who have gotten off to a rather slow start. To add to their woes, the catalyst who spearheaded the Polish WC 2002 Qualifying campaign, Olisadebe, is doubtful for the clash. As for Italy, it's high time they got their act together as there'd never be a better chance to consolidate at least a playoff place following Serbia's defeat at the hands of Finland last Saturday. With Nesta, Cannavaro, Totti, Del Piero, Buffon back in the side, they should have little trouble seeing off a dour Finland side without its first choice goalie in Antti Niemi - I don't think Juuskelainen is up to the task against the Italians. Quite simply, I do not believe a Finland side founded on the resilience of Hyypia, the creativity of Litmanen and the youthful exuberance of Forssell, Pasanen, Varyrnen would be enough to stop the Azzuris whose galaxy of stars are used to playing at the highest level - 4/5 certainly looks value when you consider the fact Italy need the points more than ever. Denmark-Hungary-Belgium-Czech Rep-Spain-Turkey-Germany-Sweden fetches 3.02 while Denmark-Hungary-Belgium-Czech Rep-Spain-Turkey-Germany-Italy fetches around 3.15. All odds quoted from Hills. :p |
