Default FIFA World Youth Championship Netherlands 2005 - fm 10th June

Thought I start this one a bit early. 6 groups with 4 teams each will compete in the oldest worldwide category for junior players. Start 10th of June.

Here is the official page, with quite some infos
http://www.fifa.com/en/comp/index/0,...=WYC&year=2005

See here for a schedule:
http://www.fifa.com/documents/tourna...le_WYC2005.pdf

Youth football in my experience is more difficult to predict, most teams are not that consistent yet. Still will try to turn a profit.

Wen't quickly through the player's list. Carlos Tevez will feature for Argentine, so there is one of the top favourites for an outright bet. His presence alone can change a whole team. Looking forward to see him play.

Fully agree - Carlos Tevez is the one to follow. Let's see if some interesting markets open.

There is no mention of these matches either on satfootball or the eurosport web page, may be they will reveal it just before the tourney - as they always do with the Toulon tournament, for example - Womens World Cup matches shown on BBC 2 and Br. Eurosport as well, though

Any thoughts on todays games people? I see a bit of market movementon the Mexican U20 side to get the win and the French to overcome the handicap. Perhaps I am just scrambling for a footie bet!

Cheers, Tulenos, just realised, I am now going to chastise myself, whilst sitting in the corner wearing a cone shaped hat with a large 'D' on it.

Bl**dy amateur!

....well, I got the bit about 'more goals' and 'France win?' bit right.

Spreadman, off to the under 17's thread........

I wonder why this topic went all quiet.

Today's the second matches of the group stage.

I really fancy the Spaniards to beat the Chileans. They are still the team to beat in this tournament. We cant judge Chile's strength from the 7-0 hammering of Honduras as Honduras just lacks the quality to play againts the big teams. Anyway here's what I wrote in the picks page.

Chile's 7-0 hammering of Honduras was a little too much I feel. The Honduras players just stopped playing after Chile's 3rd goal. Spain meanwhile outclassed Morocco with their good 3-1 win. For this match, I feel that Spain is still the better team. Even though Chile might pose problems with their set pieces, but Spain should have enough quality to get the win here considering Chile doesnt really have a tight defence. Hopefully is Spain is lucky enough, they can win by 2 goals over this tough Chile side.

I got a feeling that USA will upset Germany tonight, Germany's 2-0 win over Egypt wasnt that impressive. While USA played a great match to beat Argentina. I feel a draw is possible. Not really a clear German win.

And I am really temted to bet on USA and Spain to win this tournament. Both of them has that star players to bring them there.

Panama(+1 1/2)
Turkey underestimated China too much and paid for it, so they will be more cautious over this match as Panama will not come easy also. Their last championship at UAE 2003 saw them losing each of their group games but never more than 1 goal. So I dont expect them to lose too much here againts the Turks. Turkey may still win this one, but I dont think they will win by more than 1 goal.

Don't have much time to watch these matches, sadly.

Had a glimpse of Switzerland against South Korea, with the Swiss beating them quite comfortably, despite being 1-0 down. South Korea have not impressed me too much, only thing to watch out for is their great speed in counter attacks. Switzerland are very well organized and might well be a bit underestimated (by the bookies too). As an addition, they have dangerous players upfront who can create chances and score. Watch out for Ziegler, Vonlanthen and Senderos, all players with A-team experience (Vonlanthen the youngest ever to score at a European Championship, if I remember right).

Tonight, I hope...really hope that Syria will upset Italy.

I dont think that this will be an easy game for the Italians. Syria's gameplay was good againts Canada and they nearly deserved a win. Al Haj will be the player the Italians need to mark properly. Italy's performance againts Colombia is just bad, as most of their players jsut came from their league matches to the tournament, so they didnt have enough rest time. I think that this match may be a draw as both teams have generally good defence, but Italy is lacking a star in front while Syria has one.

And odds of 11.00 is just crazy. Or actually odds of 1.20 for Italy is just plain disrespectful. I believe Syria has the ability to suprise here, especially with Al Haj playing so well againts Canada.
