EventN. Ireland - Sweden
SelectionSweden
Strength10/10
Date28/03/2007
Bookmaker/PriceBetdaq @ 1.75 (Back)
ReasoningSweden with 12 points after four matches are looking to place themselves in a very good position to qualify from group F. Northern Ireland are not easy to beat and should not be underestimated, but Sweden have a good tradition of qualifying to championships by now and are used to playing matches like this one. Also, of course, the fact that Ibrahimovic is back means a lot both for attacking power and confidence. N. Ireland's typical British way of playing also suits Sweden fine, they have a good record vs those kind of teams. Sweden are better in every position and I may not be objective enough, but I predict a win and find this odds quite tasty.

Treble to predict in this group! Spain will defo win at home to Iceland, will take 1/7 straight win, you never know what Spanish will turn up. If they score early they could run riot! Northern Ireland are poor and will miss Gillespie seriously against Sweden. He stood out along with Healy against Liecthenstein. Otherwise the North looked very ordinary. Wouldn't touch Northern Ireland to win, probably safest to lay them but i do fancy the swedes to do enough to take the points. Lativa are priced very high away to Liechtenstein @ 1.44. I'll be taking that. Home side truly awful, I took Northern Ireland win at 1.70 last saturday, incredible price! I'm on Latvia again tomorrow.

Northern Ireland-Sweden

IMO Sweden has more quality. NI have Healy and the Swedes will need to look after him in this game. If they can contain him they will win this. I fancy Ibrahimovic to score on his return.

Pick 1: Sweden - 1,60 @ Expekt
Pick 2: Ibrahimovic to score 2 goals - 8,00 @ Expekt

SaberBlade83,

I think you should be a little bit careful about Ibrahimovic. Many times he's been having a hard time in the national team, while he still has been great in his club. On the other hand he might be very determined to show both swedish media and fans that he can do well also in the national team. But i think i would need at least odds of 10.00 to play it.

Sweden starting line-up is now official.

Isaksson
Nilsson, Hansson, Mellberg, Edman
Alexandersson, (Daniel) Andersson, (Anders) Svensson, Ljungberg
Elmander, Ibrahimovic.

Note that Kim Källström and Christian Willhelmsson (Roma) starts on the bench, and swedish media call it a "defensive line-up".

Not to worry, I'll be careful. I'm only putting some smaller amount of money on it. Not betting much on these international games, I'll save most of my money for the league games.

They were beaten by a team with a great manager who brings the best out of the players he can select, a team that played with passion and guts and a world class striker. -

World class striker? I think you've gone too far with that, mate. He's playing for Leeds in the Championship, with a provisional drop in sight. His first goal was a lovely one, but I wish he could score many ugly goals to save Leeds rather than an eye catching one just to dispatch someone to the Moon.

Hats off to the team, but don't be fooled by the win. Sweden is ultimately 2nd class in Europe (2.5 to be honest).

Sweden is a very good team...but healy world class??? no chance he can barely score for a relegation threatened Leeds if he was world class he could drag them out of their position alone and he'd be into the premiership long time ago! Though they have a very good manager in Sanchez he has done wonders with that team even without Gillespie REALLY didn't expect this result!

For NI Healy is World Class. 29 international goals, playing for a small side. Shearer only got 1 more than that for England.

Sweden may not be the cream of the crop, but they are almost always there in the big tournaments.

Spain (Healy got a hat trick, we won), England we beat - Healy scored. All 2nd rate I guess

Sweden came to Windsor for a draw. They definately didn't expect the noise from the crowd, Isaakson was all over the place early on, and a few others as well.

When chasing us 2-1 down they looked a lot better, created several good chances. Without Gillespie much of out play came down the left, but Healys 2nd came from a right wing cross from Johnson.

Healy is top class imo, as said he has 29 goals in 56 caps. 2 hat tricks, and a collection of some great goals and against some great sides.

Rooney is world class, but looks like a problem for England doesn't he?

I agree with your analyzis, and as I'm from Sweden I'm really dissapointed today, sick and tired of our manager's way of always playing it safe and choosing defensive players over creative players. As soon as Källström got the chance to play Sweden started to dare playing a kind of football that we really should be able to play from the start. About Healy: the guy is a top class striker, I don't care if he doesn't do well in Leeds, says more about Leeds and Wize than Healy's qualities imo. Ok, congrats to N. Ireland for a well deserved win.
