Brazil – Mexico

Pick: Brazil
Odds: 1.60 @ Interwetten
Stake: 4/10

Brazil came on this Copa America without many world class players, including Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Lucio. Despite this absences, Brazil still have very strong team full with great talents. This is Dunga’s first major tournament and he has huge desire to have successful tournament on his debut.

Mexico prepared for this tournament on GOLD Cup where they lost in the final from the host nation USA, but their performances on that tournament were poor. When we add their big troubles with the roster, playing without many first team players on this tournament, they are total outsiders even against this Brazilian team without their biggest stars.

Robinho, Diego and Elano will control the midfield and although they are not same class with Ronaldinho and Kaka, they are still great players and can bring control of the match to their team. After poor performances on GOLD Cup, I think that Mexico will have no chances at all against talented Brazilian squad.

Get in on Ecuador, 2/1 on stanjames

Can see this being an Ecuadorian win, Chile have a decent set of individuals, but alot of their players are self-centred and look to make themselves look better than the others, The Ecuadorians on the other hand have a very strong physical style which could rattle a very small physiqued Chilean team.

Rodrigo Tello is a player to watch on Chille, got a beautiful left foot on him, will be taking most their free-kicks. (20/1 1st goalscorer)

Ivan Hurtado at 40/1 is a good price, i can see a set piece again opening the scoring here, Hurtado the Ecuadorian defender is very strong in attacking the ball.

I think I might take Mexico @ 12.0 as their odds will shoot right down if they get a favourable result against Brazil (and escape their group). Can then lay to go in the green.
Eventually got Mexico @ 13.50 on Betfair, and at one point they went above 14.0! They are now 9.6 to lay, and that price will only drop.

Argentina v USA

1 UNIT Argentina ( -1 ) at 1.91

Despite the two shocks so far I expect Argentina to be to strong for the americans. Messi, Crespo, Mascherano, Riquelme. They should be able to score 2 or 3.

Argentina's record in copa america
P 169, W 107, L 30, GF 415, GA 162, GD +253

USA's record in copa America
P 9, W2, D2, L 5, GF 9, GA 13, GD -4

nice result for Mexico.....

One more win should see them drop in price enough to lay them and green out.

My other 2 picks Columbia and USA play tonight so Im hoping for at least one shock.

not sure it's a great result for Mexico if they were hoping for an easy route to the final though. They'll now probably come up against Argentina in the semis.

a fairly safe assumption is it not?

a tiny little bit of me says Brazil fixed that game last night in order to avoid the Argies and to make a hefty profit betting on Mexico. I'd never have even considered that in the past but you never know these days!

Still, probably it was just a good performance from the much underated Mexicans, hopefully we'll see a few more before this tournament's out.

did u even see that game mate?

never in a million years was that fixed, the Mexico goals were simply outstanding. Brazil could easily have scored before they went behind, even having one goal wrongly dissalowed for offside. Brazil did their best to get something out of that game but were just outclassed by 2 great strikes

Thanks for that meatman. I too am in two minds as to whether it was good for Mexico to win that one.

Then again if the Argies fail to win their group it's game on!

Quite interesting when you look at previous runnings of this tourney how many times Brazil and Argentina haven't actually won their groups.

Tournament: Copa America 2007
Match: USA v Argentina
Date: 29/6/07
Time: 02:50 cet
Reccomended Bet: Argentina -1.5 AH @ 2.06 SBObet 2/10

It's an obvious bet but I think Argentina should win this one quite easily. USA have no where near a full strength squad for this one and they are just in it for the experience. The tourney favs will want ot put on a show and prove that they are the best in the competition. The -1.5 AH line @ these odds were just too tempting to ignore and worth a punt IMO. Only 2/10 stakes because shocks have happened in this tourney so far, but I think this should be fairly easy.

I wasn't being entirely serious mate, but you never know, nobody smelled a hint of a rat after the Cronje leather jacket game! I'd also like to know what job you have which lets you stay up at 1:50am and watch football!!!! But still away from outlandish theories I'm really not sure that was the best result for the Mexicans anyway. The confidence and belief it will give them will be a plus, but Argentina now lurk at the semi final stage.

btw Grim Reaper - if Argentina come 2nd then they'll play Mexico in the quarters not semis!

On the major stage for Argentina, they traditionally have the tournament open with a striker opening the scoring, typically the number 9, so get in on the worlds greatest striker - Hernan Crespo 1st goalscorer - (4-1 Stanjames) Stake 5/10. Crespo anytime - 11/8 BET365 - Stake 10/10
