I've been converted into a Mexico fan. Backing them to win (with a view to trading) PLUS backing them on the Sporting Index Outright market looks like the route to profit. As long as they finish 2nd (or even a strong 3rd) then they should avoid Arg or Brazil until the final.

It's certainly a bet with merits.

Peru do not play at altitude, don't know where you got that info from? Lima is on the Pacific coast, surrounded by desert! Don't have fond merories of the place either .

Might go for over 2.5 goals in the opening match, as imo that will dicate how the tournament is to progress. Even though Uruguay are the favourites, I can see Peru giving them a real run for their money, as they have improved over the last year or two.

Can also see the hosts opening with a win, ableit a tight 1-0 match.

Been quite busy for the last few weeks and have not posted for
quite a while. Haven't had muh of a chance to do any study/research
before the tournament started so for the moment I am going to
back the following treble and take a bit of a watching brief while the
first series of games take place.

Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay all to win their groups.
Pays just over 3/1 in PaddyPowers

Not very original I know but has I said, haven't really had much
spare time for the last few weeks.

Good luck to all.

Really like the chances of URUGUAY for this. Brazil have taken a weakened squad, Argies look very decent but price is far too short. The hosts always perform well at the Copa, but Venezuela are not a good side. None of the other sides grab me, and Uruguay have a very winnable group containing Peru, Bolivia and Venzuela. They have some players playing in Europe's top leagues such as Diogo, Recoba and Forlan.

Uruguay outright EW @ 11.0 generally

Diego Forlan Top Scorer EW @ 13.0 Bet365

Small bet on them to win their opening game Vs Peru @ 1.8, and a small dabble on the 1-0 CS @ 7.4

general question - why do some bookies take down their outright markets once the first game is underway? Surely it would be simpler to just suspend betting on the 2 teams involved?

Well as Typicalleedsfan say's if Uruguat are 11's to win the thing then surley there are a good thing at 5's to beat Peru (they are currently a goal down to Peru !)

I am having a dabble at URGay or whgatever Homer calles them lol

First half 0-1 (Uruguay Vs Peru). I have to say Peru play much better than Uruguay, for me it look very much like a DRAW game. FT score most likely 1-1. Well, it could end up 0-1 if Peru can defend like what they did after the one gol lead!

My tips to top their groups is: ARG-MEX-PERU -

Get in on Blanco of Mexico to score some goals and Paraguay to get through aswell, some players to watch out for are C. Rodriguez of Urguay

Looks like I were more or less correct re Peru giving them run for their money, and over 2.5 goals. Peru deserved the win and Uruguay were just poor.

Venezuela were really poor IMO, I had taken them -1 AH but that was a bet that was looking dodgy throughout. Bolivia were quite good I thought and I'd consider backing them in future games, As for the hosts, well I'd imagine Peru and Uruguay will beat them tbh. I really was not impressed with them one bit

Venezuela were unlucky against Bolivia, conceded twice when leading the match. Uruguay is really poor against Peru and Peru relied heavily on counter attack. Venezuela already has a point and are favourites to win this group. Winner of this group will meet 2nd best 3rd place thus avoiding Brazil or Argentina until semifinal stage.

Price for Venezuela is still high, 18 at betfair. Probably can be have the lay at semifinal stage for a profitable trade.

Ok now that the outrights are back, I really like the look of Mexico. I saw them beat Ecuador and Paraguay earlier this year and they are a heavily underestimated team by the public as bar Marquez they have few start names, but they play good football and their technique is very good. They are also a good team in tournament play and with the draw falling for them I see no reason why they can't get to the final.

Mexico @ 10/1 (General)

Venezuela were rather disapointing, I figured they would have handled Bolivia easily, but Maldonado and Rojas were the only players that impressed. I could see them drawing every match. Btw Arce for Bolivia is a fantastic young player (17 yo) he reminds of C Ronaldo.

As for today the Mexicans +1.25 @2.15 have got my attention, Mexico always play Brazil tough.

Brazil Vs Mexico tonight - 1.50am

I reckon Mexico is a great bet @ 7/1 to win this match, plus 3/1 as a saver on the draw (Betfair)!!

Brazil haven't really been impressive recently & are without Kaka, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo & Adriano...

Quote:
The Brazilians kicked off 2007 with a mixed bag of results. They
have been beaten in Portugal, held to a draw in London, pinched an
unimpressive win against Ghana, and delivered a 4-goal beating to a
hapless Chile side.

More bad news for Brazil supporters is that their team are going
into the Copa with just one planned warm-up match between now and
their first Group tie.

Mexico

Mexican camp pretty divided right now between those who are pro Ricardo Volpe and those who are pro Hugo Sanchez. This is further fuelled by the fact that Osario, Pardo and Salcido have left the squad due to tiredness but the real fact is these players do not get along well with Hugo Sanchez. This divide in the squad is pretty evident in the Mexican lackluster display in the recent Gold Cup. Futhermore, Borgetti and Guardado might not play tomorrow due to injury.

Brazil

Weakened by the absence of their star players such as Kaka, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Adriano. Nonetheless, I feel the current players such as Robinho, Diego, Love are worthy substitutes. Besides, they are probably hungier than their missing senior players and will play to prove their worth.

Brazil to win.
