Smashing price on Iraq in my book.

I will be taking them on the handcaps and i will be nibbling some of the 11/2 and 5/1.

I have this a lot closer on my ratings and I see the Sout Africans really struggling here and their inability to see games out will take it's toll on them over the next 2 weeks here. Iraq are no world beaters that's for sure, but they have a squad that has been together for a long time and know each others game well.

Alot of expectation on the hosts here and I can see Iraq getting a draw or even the win, so the handicap bet on Iraq for me.

How many times have we seen an upset in the first round of games in a major tournament...this one to add to those stats for me.

first match is between the hosts and iraq,

south africa have only had one game in the last 3 months which they won 1-0 against poland the other day,

this match looks like africa will coast it but i dont think either of these teams are that good but both teams lack of competitive matchplay could be a factor

the thing that needs working out here is will this be a show piece game to get everyone interested in this worthless tournament, especially from the african side, their are still 30% of tickets left unsold so going on what little info ive got on both teams, im going to guess that this match is going to be used purely for boosting the tournaments interest,
i know this is a bit of a cynical view but it might lead me to a profit which is why we are all here and i dont have any better ideas atm

also africa have dropped benni mcarthy for not turning up to 2 friendly matches so they are now without their top goal scorer, thats a smart move,

im going to try africa to win with 3 or more goals scored @ 2/1

Spain are hot favourites here but there is no point in backing them at such low odds. You should instead bet on over 3.5 goals as Spain will definitely score a hatful of goals, whereas even New Zealand players could get on a score sheet.

therefor +3,5 @1,8
and torres to score @ 1,5

should be easy money.

I think it's safe to say the majority of us agree that this tournament is fairly unpredictable, at least until everyone has played a game. On that premise I don't think Iraq -1 @ 22/1 or even -2 at 125/1 (!) is impossible.. A little nibble of each I think.

In Spain, Confederation Cup its a great opportunity to watch National team and there is huge expectation. Del Bosque has bringed best players (Iniesta is injured)and he want trophy.
I think that Spain will play all matches as another official match. Last match was 0-6 in Acerbayan with some reserves.

South Africa @ 1.61

The hosts play Iraq in the opening fixture and will want to kick this off with a win. Although as Benni McCarthy is not playing South Africa have enough quality to see of Iraq and have honour in winning the opening game as the hosts for the tournament.

Have to laugh, when your waiting on a team to score and there own player blocks a goal bound header then you know it won't be your day.

Good call rdeacon on the HC on Iraq v SA. Anyone know the Spanish team for tonite. Fancy Villa for first goalscorer also Villa for top scorer in the tournament.

Really looking forward to this tournament, though I don't think many others are. Spain, Brazil and Italy all top class sides with USA and Egypt too who are no mugs. I've backed Spain to win outright. They are in Group A with New Zealand , Iraq and South Africa which means they are almost guaranteed to qualify through to the Semi's with ease (we have just seen how poor the last 2 sides mentioned are). Brazil and Italy should be the 2 to qualify from Group B but they have no easy game with Egypt and USA being capable of proving tough nuts to crack. In the past we have seen Brazil and Italy swapping their team/format around and you can't get away with thati n tournaments such as these so Spain are worthy favourites in my opinion. We know Torres and Villa will start up front and the midfield boasts such quality in Fabregas, Xavi and Senna so it's worth backing them at the 11/8 mark.

US will not lose to Italy, mark my words! Think I will probably take USA at a big +0 because no1 here has any faith in them. I saw them worst case scenario drawing, but maybe im just crazy

That's all well and good, but why?

I actually believe what you're saying has some truth in it. Italy have been poor since they won the World Cup with an ageing side and have lost their most valuable asset - consistent clean sheets. Let's face it, any side that concedes three goals to New Zealand in any competition has issues. Add that to the fact that USA have a decent squad and there's a potential upset on the cards. That said, USA managed to lose at Costa Rica and labour past Honduras in their own qualifying group for the World Cup, so they're not exactly world-beaters themselves. A draw is possible, but I wouldn't put it past the Italians to get a penalty and win 2-1. I won't be betting on this game, however.

Im on under 3.5 goals at Even money in Spain match.

Impersonally hoping for a boring 1-0/2-0 win for Spain.

Hopefully they can get 2 goals by half time, then a few subs made and they take it easy.

11 men behind the ball for New Zealand is what im hoping for.

Good luck all.

do you not think that nzs 3 goals against italy may have a bearing on this final score new zealand took the lead 3 times i think they are going to be a tad confident cant see new zealand not scoring tbh

To be honest, I think their U14 squad would have a good shout against New Zealand.

Their match squad did include Gattuso, Gilardino, Rossi, Quagliarella and Dossena though, players at very good clubs and with some fantastic ability. They actually had to bring Iaquinta off the bench to win them the game - that's the key right there.

Still, we'll have to see how the game goes tomorrow. Good luck all

The USA seems to play better against bigger teams. They played a couple of friendlies last year and played well against Argentina and Spain and not so much against England. The Costa Rica and Honduras games were pathetic. Bradley was throwing a strange lineup against Honduras and ill admit that we played pretty poorly there. Costa Rica game was bound to happen because I think the USA has never beat Costa Rica in Costa Rica.

This Spain-New Zealand game, I dont know. Spain is making this look like practice. Yeah the best Italy team wasnt out their against New Zealand, but it was exactly their worst. This team has just not done well since they won the World Cup.

Maybe im just being a homer in this case but I believe that Italy has a terrible Confederation Cup, and somehow the USA will move onto in the next round. A result against Italy will do wonders for the USA program and its supporters. A lot of people here in the states have no idea what the Confederation Cup is, where it is, whos in it, and they couldnt care less how we do in it. A big name like Italy, would do wonders and peak interest.
