No goals count 'double', not even away goals.

They simply count more...

Away goals count double in 90 mins, not in extra time as far as I am aware.

This thread started to confuse me :b so thought i'd do a quick paste from uefa.com

Playoff procedures
In matches played according to the knockout system, each team plays the same opponent twice, in home-and-away matches. The team which scores the greater aggregate of goals in the two matches qualifies for the final tournament. If the two teams score the same number of goals over the two legs of their tie, the team which scores more away goals qualifies for the final tournament. If this procedure does not produce a result (ie. if the two teams score the same number of goals at home and away), extra time of 2 x 15 minutes is played at the end of the second leg. If during extra time, both teams score the same number of goals, away goals count double (ie. the visiting team qualifies). If no goals are scored during extra time, kicks from the penalty mark (as per Article 14) determine which team qualifies.

Cheers Pompey,

Had been reading somewhere else today that they didn't count double in extra time but according to your paste from UEFA they do. Thanks for that

Silver goal for play-offs
Monday, 10 November 2003
UEFA has decided to apply the silver goal ruling for the forthcoming play-off matches for UEFA EURO 2004™ and the UEFA European Under-21 Championship.

Rule consistency
European football's governing body told its member associations that it had decided to deploy the ruling in order to be consistent with the rule applied to knock-out matches in other UEFA competitions. The EURO 2004™ and European Under-21 Championship play-offs will take place over two legs on 15/16 and 18/19 November.

Positive response
The silver goal ruling was introduced by UEFA to replace the sudden death golden goal ruling for last season's European club competition finals, and met with a generally positive response, in particular from Europe's leading coaches.

Extra time
Under the ruling, extra time of a maximum 30 minutes is played if the two teams are level at the end of the second leg, and have scored the same number of home and away goals. If one of the teams is ahead after the first 15 minutes of extra time, that team is declared the winner. If the sides are still level, however, a second 15-minute period is played. If one of the teams is ahead after this second period, that team is the winner. If the result remains deadlocked, a penalty shoot-out determines the winners.

Cheers for that dirkscot, didn't see that earlier though

Seems abit strange to change the rules after they had already stated them though Never mind, won't affect my betting though, no sure how happy Scotland will be if they lose 1-0 at full-time, then go 2-0 down in extra time, and don't get the chance to pull it back in the second period of extra time :x
