| NZ play Aus in a friendly at craven cottage london, early friday morning nz time. The All Whites go into the game with a very weakend side, playing their first match of the year. The local media reports "New Zealand will do well to avoid a mauling tomorrow with Ryan Nelsen, Ivan Vicelich, Duncan Oughton, Tony Lochhead, Raf de Gregorio and Chris Killen unavailable and the experienced Simon Elliott unwanted. " Players from clubs such as Darlington and AFC Wimbledon will make up the Kiwi team. The Aussie team is very strong, Manager Farina can call on players from the top flight in the Netherlands, Spain, Italy and Turkey as well as six English premiership regulars, including Viduka, Blackburn teammates Brett Emerton and Lucas Neill. With Everton's Tim Cahill running the Socceroos' midfield in front of a defence marshalled by Middlesbrough goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer You can get 1.5 on the Aussies, money for nothing as far as I can see. I know a lot of people don't bet on international friendlies, but NZ and Aus don't play friendly matches, at anything. Pile On. |

| Agree with you fools 100% 1.57 imho is massive for the Aussies , it shouldn`t be anywhere near that surely.

| I've placed a fairly large bet on Australia and a small Asian handicap bet as well, at around evens. Need them to win by 2 goals or more, 1 goal difference returns the money. I am very confident in an Australia win, especially after talking to a NZ friend of mine who kept telling me how shite their team is. :-) |

| I used Betfair. 1519 EUR available to bet @ 2.02 (before commission) as I write this. Edit: And now it disappeared, 2.00 still available tho. :-( Try to put in a cheeky bit for 2.05, maybe you'll get matched. Last edited by snyena; 09-06-2005 at 10:39. |

| Looking to build on my recent good form, and so tonight I'm going for max. stakes on OVER 2.5 goals in this match. bet365 are offering 1.90 for this which again, for me, stands out at excellent value. If I'm feeling brave I may even go for over 3.5 goals, being offered at a very tasty 3.25, but will probably just go with 2.5+. My other bet for tonight is Australia-Australia in the HT/FT market, a very nice-looking 2.00 being offered on this. Good luck to all, and let's have another winner this evening. ![]() |

| It is something I thought about, but overall I think it's still a worthwhile gamble. True, whilst their minds may not out to score a massive amount because it's a friendly, I think that some players will still have things to prove. I'm sure they will field a few players on the brink of the first team who will want to impress, and for the attacking-minded players that will probably mean trying to get on the scoresheet (Archie Thompson wasn't even close to being Australia's first choice striker when he scored 13 against American Samoa - although I do realise that's a totally different level of opponent). These two teams don't really play friendly's, so I don't see them having that different a mentality to a normal WC game. And New Zealand haven't played in a long time, so whilst I agree that they probably won't score a goal tonight, if what I'm hearing about the standard of players NZ have - English non-league players - I'm still confident of OVERS in this game. But good luck to you in whatever bets you follow. ![]() |

, I reckon the Aussies are certainly worth a shot. However, as with most friendlies, the under/over certainly leaves me with more questions than answers and I wouldn't really count on that as a shoo-in(although I could understand where you're coming from if you want something that's more of a gamble given the paltry odds on offer for the Aussies) and the Aussie midfield looks makeshift to me - Grella and Bresciano have been released to play for Parma in their playoffs - as all they have(at least, players that I know and rate) are Cahill and Emerton. | |

| Other related news from that website: "Sterjovski, who last played as an out and out striker some five years ago when at Parramatta Power, will split his FC Basel teammate Scott Chipperfield (left) and Blackburn Rovers Brett Emerton (right) in a three-pronged attack, aimed at putting a lot of pressure on the Kiwi defence." "The match, to be played at Fulham’s Craven Cottage ground, will act as the final preparation for the Confederations Cup, which kicks off five days later with a clash against football superpower Germany" "New Zealand have injury problems themselves, in what is there first international since last years ill-fated Oceania World Cup qualifying campaign just over a year ago. Blackburn Rovers defender Ryan Nelsen is out, while Dutch-based defender Ivan Vicelich is also out, leaving Danny Hay to lead a fairly inexperienced line-up. | i'm not entriely confident of a 'mauling' here past results dont really point towards a goal fest imo the last result between the sides was 1-0 to australia at home the aussies havent really been scoring in abundance except their 9-0 tanking of the footballing powerhouse that is Tahiti the overs looks tempting odds wise..and the only thing that really swings it in favour of Australia is the injuries to NZ however Aus arent the same football team they were a few years ago attacking wise..Cahill is the only real standout player i'm seeing on the line-up they also have a defence that creaks with every move Kewell used to be a class act..now he's suing walkers crisps frontmen for ego bruising Viduka hasnt been playing regularly..and has been in Aus cos of his sick relative flip a coin anyone? |

| The more I've read about this game, the more I do agree that it won't be a whitewash.. but surely, surely there is only going to be one winner? Taking into consideration that Australia aren't on their best form, I still can't possibly see how NZ will give them a real test.. they just haven't got the quality.. many of the Aussies have the quality, they just haven't shown it completely. I'm confident on my OVERS prediction and also am going medium stakes on Australia-Australia in the HT/FT market, now a good 2.25 with bet365. It won't be a great game but I still don't envisage anything less than a 2/3 goal Australian win.. yes it's a friendly, but with the Confederations Cup in 5 days time, there's no chance it'll be treated like one IMO. |

| further note NZ's squad is almost unrecognisable from the one fielded a year previously in the aus 1-0 win goal-keeper and one outfeld player are the mainstays Australia on the other hand have a pretty similar team straight bet on Aus is best imo...havin said all that i cant help feelin there will be a few goals goin in, NZ's lack of regulars and injuries does them no good at all Australia to win to nil @ 2.45 looks tempting ![]() Last edited by fgee; 09-06-2005 at 21:48. |
