| Don't usually like systems but found this one interesting. Very good logic to it. The fact many pundits say (obviously wrongly) "it may have taken it out of him", probably means value is there so a profit can be made. One question Ralphie. Do not have any working out to substantiate this but: Over the years it has often seemed the case horses can run well twice in succession when the first run is on firm / good going. But are less likely to recover when the first race is on testing ground (having a hard race). In your experience Ralphie,do horses that run on on a sound surface first time have a better record than those on soft? Or is it just something that has stuck in my mind, without true foundation? | Gingertipster Interesting theory One that I can't prove either way as I have never kept records of the going. I can give you my opinion but like I say I can't prove it. In my experiences in participating in sport ( Football & Athletics and later Marathon running ) I would say that heavy going would take more out of you than good going and so would take longer to recover from but I would also say that the jarring on your legs in my experience in Road Racing takes more out of your legs than say Cross Country running. So I would think All Weather would take less out of a horses legs than turf. I once ran a 10k wearing really light Racing Shoes. My legs felt terrible for days after that. A lot worse than running a Marathon wearing GOOD Trainers. It was the jarring from the hard surface. I think of horses as athletes. There will be similarities in the training for races. Things like peaking for certain races etc. Going under distance for speedwork and going over distance to build stamina. Like I say all this is just my opinion .
