| Greetings all. I'm fairly new to horse racing and betting in general. I've won a bit so far but lost a bit more as well. Can anyone out there tell me the best way to improve my strike rate when backing favorites. I know handicapped races are less likely to win, Irish races and evening races seem to be a bit more random with there fav's as well. I'm mostly looking for info on the best types of races to bet, number of runners, odds etc. Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!!![]() |

| I agree with DAN-O. Im new myself to horse's and i back what i want. I dont bet on fav's as you cant rely on this. Plus they do not win all the time anyway. I read on here sumwhere that there was 26 races without the fav winning. Look on this site if you need a tip or just look at the horse race or whateva and go with what you think. Never bet more than you can afford to lose!!! Happy betting. ![]() |

| Agree with the other comments in a way, but most horses I fancy tend to be favourites. Like to back in runners with about 4-10 runners and wont back below 1/2 and probably no higher than about 10/1 unless its each way. Welcome to PL by the way.

| welcome to pl re backing favourites the %that they win is generally 33% 1in 3 i think that if you only back fav you will lose money my theory is that bookies want you to lose and put horses in fav that have no chance hope you see what im trying to get at ![]() |

| Yeah i aggree GORD. They say it's the Fav so punters put lots of money on it and really they know its another horse. Win Win Win fo the bookies. Any way if it was that easy everyone would do it and bookies would be skint. Also remember if it say's Joint fav you will get even less money back, another good bookie scam. |

| Thanks for the good advice fella's. I did my own small personal study of every favorite over a 60 day period using betfair S.P.s and results. The only definate thing I learned is that every favorite regardless of price is a lot less likely to win than the odds would suggest. So I think that you are all correct about fav's being a load of bo***cks. Can anyone recommend a good book for learning how study form and hopefully picking winners? Thanks again!!! |

I only do it for fun and i have about 50+ bets a day on he gee gees. Not alot though bout 10p win or 20p if e/w. I dont know about studing form as i dont do it but i am sure someone on here will point you in the right direction. ![]() |
