Default UEFA Cup 9th March 2006

Roma drew 1-1 last night with Inter Milan.
Before that their recent form reads
Home - P5 W5 D0 L0
Away - P5 W5 D0 L0

Also away from home in last 5 matches, Scored 12 conceded 0.

They are available at 6-4 currently and I think that is a good price. Boro have had a turn around in form recently but I don't think they will be able to cope with Roma.

Default Re: Middlesboro V Roma UEFA Cup

I think the Boro/Roma game is nicely balanced.

Roma have the very impressive form, but those wins were with key players such as Totti and De Rossi who both will be missing for the game at Boro. Totti is not only the major goalscorer he is also the club's captain.

I saw last 20 minutes of Roma/Inter game last night and was not too impressed with either team. Roma had a solid midfield, but the most important midfielder seemed to be De Rossi (slightly ahead of Dacourt) who is now missing.

Roma's second forward Montella? was missing too with a back injury which left them very light up front. I think they only had 2 corners (at home) over 90 minutes.

Boro expect a 30,000 crowd with many fans saying its the biggest game in the clubs history. There is a possible return for Downing, Parlour, and even maybe Morrison. The spine of the team is present Schwarzer, Southgate, Boateng, Yakubu. Boro certainly raise their game at home against the bigger teams (as Chelsea, MU and Arsenal have found out) and I don't see why they won't on Thursday.

Its interesting to guess what the priorities are for the 2 teams. Roma you would expect to focus on champions league spot above all else. For Boro it was Premiership survival, but after the weekend I think they will put most emphasis on the cups as a route to Europe for next season.

At present I have to say its a lay of Roma in the 2.50/2.70 range. I don't think they deserve to be made favourites and probably would be happy with a draw in what he is tricky tie for them.

I missed the end of the game last night. I only saw it while it was 1-0 to Roma. A draw could be a sensible covering bet, i'm still deciding how best to use my stake money.

ReasoningI feel Boro's style of play will suit Roma down to the ground. Roma like to play on the counter attack and missing a few regulars from the normal starting line up I expect a typical Italian performance with fast breaks looking to expose boro's weakened defensive line up. Boro's home record is not the best .. Villa thumped them 4-0, Wigan won a 5 goal thriller so why shouldn't Roma who are doing great domestically take something back with them.

ReasoningUEFA Cup Match Thursday 9 March 2006 - 19:15
It is all well and good having a good UEFA Cup run if things aren't going too well in your home league then it'll all be for nothing. Strabourg have pulled out some good results lately both domestically and in Europe but they are still 5 points adrift of Troyes and 3rd from bottom in their league.
As usual Basel are romping away with their league and are 7 points clear at the top. These two met in the group stage with Strasbourg pulling out a surprise win in Basle, they also put together a good performance getting past Litex Lovech in the knockout stage after a home 0-0 draw. Basle got past Monaco in the knockout stage thanks to a 1-0 home win. Enough, Strasbourg have a very good record this season in the UEFA Cup but all good things come to an end. They have a few injuries for this game and whispers have been heard about them resting a couple of key players for the important game at the weekend against Le Mans.

Steaua Bucharest v Betis Sevilla

Betis travels to Bucharest with a decimated squad to face Steaua. Castellini and Lembo complete a very long list of injuries, no more than 7 players are not fit for this game. Betis is in a very dangerous position in Primera, laying in 15th spot and having real dificulties when playing outside his stadium. Last game against Getafe was a total dissapointment from Betis. Serra Ferrer , in the press conference before the game said that Betis is interested in uefa cup as much as avaoiding relegation but i doubt that. On the other hand, Steaua has a full squad, no injured or suspended
player. Tickets sold out since monday, 50.000 ppl are expected to come to Lia Manoliu stadium this afternoon. A little bit of concern about Steaua's last UEFA game, 0-1 vs Heerenveen, but they were allready qualified after the 3-1 win in the 1st leg. I can't see Betis getting anything from this and the odds are so tempting on a Steaua win. I'm also going to have a little bit of the overs, pure crazyness from the bookies.

Bet Steaua 2.25 @ Centrebet 7/10
Bet over 2.5 goals 2.42 @ Betfair 4/10

ReasoningBetis are different team away from home, even now when they had their confidence back but lost poorly to Getafe in the weekend.
Steaua are strong home side and only some kind of underestimating will allow Betis to take something from this match. LAY Betis

in Europe. LAY Rapid
