Steaua have a very good defensive line but i think that Middlesbrough will score and go for a DRAW.
Schalke are very good at home so i think it would be a HOME WIN.

Steuea look value at 11/8 to win the first leg.

They have rested over the last week (with the help of the Romanain FA) and Boro have had to play 2 games over Easter. I can't see how this will be an easier game for Boro than Basle in the last round, where they lost 2-0. Boro will be without Riggott who is suspended.

As for Midlesbrough, they might score tonight but they wont win.
There are rubbish on the road.
Just take a look at who they have beaten this year. In the EPL teams ranked below them (14,15,17,18,20)and in the uefa Stuttgart and Grasshopers.

Hmmmm, I have justbeing getting ready for work and remembered I had a dream last night . . .Steaua won 2-1! Steaua scored in the first half, then went 2-0 in the second in the second before 'Boro scored!

Non dreaming tips: I do fancy Steaua to win this. I think Boro will go through at home in the second leg as they're building up some great momentum. As stated, Viduka (who has been superb lately) and Southgate are both big blows to 'Boro.

Schalke play really bad in their last matches..And today Kuranyi and Lincoln sit on the bench..Schalkes defence look very poor and defence players have mistakes..I cant see Schalke can win Sevilla..

This is a game Romania awaits for a long time. No Romanian team has reached the semifinal of an European Cup for 17 years, when Dinamo, in 1989, played vs Anderlecht in the semifinal of the Cup Winner's Cup. This is the 4th European Cup semifinal Steaua plays in it's history: in 1985-1986 Anderlecht - Steaua 1-0 & 0-3 ( that year Steaua won European Champions cup ); in 1987-1988 Steaua - Benfica 0-0 & 0-2; in 1988-1989 Steaua - Galatasaray 4-0 & 1-1 ( in the final they lost 4-0 vs AC Milan ). After 20 years since Steaua won European Champions Cup, they play again in the upper phases of an European Cup with big chances to reach the final. The game will be played at Lia Manoliu stadium, 50.000 ppl expected, tickets sold out couple days ago. Steaua has the best team in the last 15 years or so, no important player left the club in the last couple years, and this is the game of their lives for most of the players. Steaua has only 1 important player missing for this game, striker Iacob, with a broken collar bone, but he began to train and will be available for the 2nd leg of this game. Middlesbrough came to Bucharest without one of his crucial players, Mark Viduka, with a pulled hamstring in the last game they played in EPL vs Wets Ham. Also Mendieta, Pogatetz and Cattermole are unavailable for this game. I saw someone saying that Southgate is not fit for this game, but in today's newspapers he is in the 1st eleven. However IMO Viduka is a huge blow for them, i watched some of Boro's games lately and he is one of the very important players for them. Since coach Olaroiu took charge of the team, in UEFA Cup this season Steaua didn't score at home: 0-1 vs Heerenveen, 0-0 vs Betis, 0-0 vs Rapid. The defense is the strong point of Steaua and i think that today they will keep Boro away. Also i think they can nick a goal, although both players and the coach said that 0-0 will do for them.

Steaua Vs Boro

I dont really know alot of Steaua, but heard they are a popular team, and also heard of how good they were back in the 80's.

Viduka being out isnt a massive blow for this game. Its a Thigh strain, and he probably wouldnt have been playing anyways. He will play on Sunday though against West Ham, i would say anyway.

I think Smac will probably start with only Yakuba upfront. He usually does this away from home, especially in Europe. Probable line up will be...

The biggest blow for Boro tonight is the loss of Southgate. Hes got a ankle problem, but again should be fit for Sunday (lets hope!). Were also without Riggot, whos suspended, and he and southgate are the Wall in our defence.

Because of this, im gunna have to go for the Steaua win. Our defence will be weak, and i can see us leaking a goal or two.

I cant see Boro Scoring more than one goal really, especially if Smac does play just Yak upfront. Its apprently a sellout in Steaua (45,000 Steaua fans, 2,500 boro (i think) so will be a good atmosphere. Boro away fans can make some noise and really get behind Boro. But Its a hard match to call, but i think the bet that looks most likley, would be a Steaua Win. I just hope Boro can get a away goal, and defend well.

Id go for 2-1, or 2-0, but im not 100% sure of my selections yet but will post later.

Steaua - Middlesbrough

Steaua played some great matches during their campaign in UEFA Cup. They showed to all of us that it is no important that you have big money and big name to play into the semifinals. You have to have desire, great atmosphere, great support from the fans and good management. Steaua in UEFA Cup characterized well organized defense, solid midfield and many missed opportunities in front of opponent's goal.

Middlesbrough has tough fixtures in close period of time. They must rotate the players because even machines will not hold on and play with 100% with so many games in so short period. They noticed some losses in Premier league, but mostly because McLaren rested some players and played wit combined team. As I said many times before, Boro team mostly is based on great play in the midfield from Boateng and Downing. Also the have top class attackers who can, in any time, produce great problems for opponent's keeper.

I thing the first match will be tough match, without any beauty and the low scoring draw is very possible, but for me there is value on backing Boro on this one. I really do fancy their football recently.

Steaua will have support from the fans, players self confidence is on very high level, they managed to bring the glory in Bucharest again after more than 20 years. The fans will appreciate what they done until now and for sure they will not go mad if the fail to get into the finals. But Steaua will give 120% of their power to play in the finals, but they have very tough opponent to pass. Steve McLaren knows that if he won UEFA Cup he will be the major candidate to be a coach of England's national team and he will ask from the players to back him and play on their level. I believe that Boro will get something from this match too, and I believe that Boro will advance into the final.

Can't see Boro winning out in Romania tonight, suppose they'd be happy to come home with a 2-1 loss.
Got too many players absent for my liking in whats likely to be a volatile atmosphere. Still fancy them to progress provioding they don;t have a mad 5 minutes as they did in Basle.
