YB - St. Gallen

YB still wants to get onto 3rd place to secure UEFA-Cup next year and they have a good chance to claim it this week, as GC is playing Zurich. After loosing the Cup final, YB has had to good wins away, but against lowly Xamax and Aarau. In both matches, they scored early and the counter attacked. This is something they will not be able to do today to this extent at home and they have been struggling, loosing the last matches at home against Zurich and Schaffhausen.
St. Gallen has found some new live with the new manager, but is still in the vicinity of the relegation places, so they still need to go for points. They have achieved only one draw against the top 4 all season, though. They had good matches against Basel and Zurich, but missing defender Koubsky and GK Razetti are really big blows to them. Replacement GK is just not good and this might be too much to overcome for them.
I am not convinced about any of both, so I leave my fingers from it.

Basel - Thun

Basel had 3 victories and decent matches before visiting GC last weekend. There they had a pretty bad match for their standards, which they could have turned around in the good 25 minutes of the 2nd half, but in the end could have lost it as well. Smiljanic is probably missing again, which makes it probable that Ba or Nakata play center defense. Defense was looking shit last week and some players are clearly not in form (Degen, Delgado), others play great (Chipperfield, Ergic).
Thun is still within a shout of UEFA-Cup place, but chances are only slim. They had a good run lately. They would need a win today to keep this alive, still I don't think they would play an open, attacking football. Instead I expect them to go into counter attack style.
Basel used to have problems with Thun, but they are not the same team as last year, so the gap in quality and the higher motivation on Basel side should be enough for Basel to claim victory. Some doubts on their defense, but coming from a bad match they will lift their level again. I will avoid a handicap bet this week, am expecting a narrow victory by Basel.

7/10 Basel @1.36 (Bet 365)

ReasoningThe two ex-European contenders meet face-to-face in a bid to try and lose the gap with leaders Zurich whom seem to be detrmined to build a comfortable lead early nough to avoid mishaps towards the end of season.

Looking at the names you'd think these sides have a semi-equal H2H staus, but that's far from being thg truth.

In Basel, the home tam won 4 and drw 1 in their las ames, scoring 18 and conceding 5!!!

Even in Thun, Basel won 2 and drew 1 in the last 6, scoring 10 and conceding 12.

The amazing thing is one sid almos always dominates th ame and produces a big win. 4-1 is the most common (3 times) and only 2 in these last 11 ended in 2 goals (i.e. less than 2.5)

My bet is that the home team will prevail and the match will have more goals. I was thinking the margin of goals to bet on would be 4 or mor, but no such bet on BetFair, so I'll accept more than 3.

Good Luck

Yes they've done very poor at home but so have Yverdon away from home. Both sides have only the 1 win respectively. Yverdon have won here this season but Schaffhausen's 4-0 demolition at Yverdon last month is good enough for me to get on the home side. Huge game as these 3 pts will aid both sides in their attempts to avoid the playoffs.

Schaffhausen 5/10 @ 2.10 betfred
Well my first effort at betting in Switzerland doesn't look like getting off to a good start. 1-0 down at half time.

Xamax - Aarau

Xamax is still last place, but this match gives them the great chance to get closer to the clubs above them. They had one victory at home as of late against Schaffhausen and a pretty decent match against Zurich on Wednesday.
Aarau has been free falling, conceding loads of goal. Some disturbances going on inside the club, too.
Strength should be similar, but Xamax the team in better form. I will give it a try for small stakes

3/10 Xamax AH -0.5 @1.85 (Bet365)

Zurich - GC

Zurich is unbeaten for 20 matches now. Last matches have not been overly impressive (expcept 6-0 against Aarau, who are really weak), with late goals against St. Gallen and Xamax to claim victory. They still could become champion, but they have to follow up with 3 points today. Alphonse is missing, but Keita is back, Margairaz seems doubtful.
GC is on a great run and have showed very good matches as well. Against Basel they had just been unlucky, they could have scratched victory there. Eduardo has now played in 3 matches and will certainly get some play time as well today.
Skill wise both teams should be about equal, form speaks for GC and Balakov is hot for this match. Few weeks back Zurich was lucky to escape with a 0-0 from the derby. Problems scoring goals could be the biggest obstacle for a GC win, but I am happy to play X2 with the odds over this generously.

A suprisingly easy victory for Zurich left me flat for Super League and Sion not delivering yesterday means a small loss in the Challenge League this WE.

Super League: Staked 15; P/L 0.07
Challenge League: Staked 6; P/L - 1.68
