Default Re: Portugal - Superliga (7 May)

Motivation and pressure should be our watch words again as the season ends this week, I suppose!
I'm not sure if there are cup considerations to effect the uefa placings in Portugal or not in all honesty?
If not then;

Boavista v Porto
Porto are champions and the goal they conceeded v Guimaraes last week was the first in the 9 straight wins they've just had!
Boavista in 6th can make the uefa places if they win and Nacional slip up at V.Setubal! But form wise Boavista couldn't beat an egg right now!
CS's 0-1 and 1-1 -IMO!

V.Setubal v Nacional
V.Setubal have an 8-0-8 home record with five 1-0 wins and five 0-1 losses in those matches! They're safe in seventh with nothing to play for, as fat as I'm aware, and have a 3-0-2 record in the last five at home! Though the 2-0-7 in their last nine in total doesn't read quite as well!
Nacional need to win to be sure of fifth, because of goal differences, though their 1-0-5 away record [the win at Penafiel] and the H2H's of 1-1-0 and 2-3-0 in total don't seem to offer them much hope!
CS's of 1-0 and 0-1 ,though?

just read in one Serbian betting magazine that Boavista could financially motivate Setubal to take something from Nacional match.

Just a rumuour, but not impossible in leagues like this one

Ferriera v Benfica
CL qualification is still a possibility for Benfica if Sporting mess up at home to Braga!
Benfica have won the last 6 v Ferriera scoring 21 and conceeding just 2!
[BTW-Valencia had a similar record v Mallorca until this Sunday!]
Even though they've been feeling the pressure, and dropping points they shouldn't have, I'm still backing them to win this! Though it wont be enough to get them the CL place they want-IMO!
My pick .......0-1 away win!

Sp.Lisbon v Sp.Braga
Rio Ave' goal v Sporting was only the 2nd they've conceeded in 11 matches!
And Braga, without any pressure and nothing but fun to play for, shouldn't be any trouble for them! But they've been feeling the pressure lately aswell so it may be another tense affair!
The unders bet looks on given Bragas record in that department already this season and 1-0 is my pick again!

Good luck all!

The battle at the bottom looks a like any 2 from 3 - if my maths is anything to go by! And of course unless there's some bizarre relegation play-off thing!
Goal difference providing the participants with what looks like being a real nail-biter!

Penafiel are well down but host 15th placed Naval who have it in their own hands to keep their top flight status!

Rio Ave,without an away win since October, visit U.Leiria who have nothing to play for!
The H2H's of 2-2-1 and 3-3-5 would seem to offer some hope though, especially as U.Leiria haven't beaten Rio Ave at home since 1999 and Rio Aves one win came in their last visit![0-3 in 2005!]

V.Guimaraes host Amadora and have a perfect record at home in this fixture 6-0-0!
This has been a miserable year for V.Guimaraes though and clean sheets have been hard to come by -so?
I'd consider 1-1 cover if you're thinking of backing them here!

I'd be grateful to anyone for more details about these matches!

cheers and good luck!

Boavista sitting in 6th place at the moment with 49 points and they are 2 points behing Nacional a win here and Setubal beating Nacional give Boavista a place in the uefa cup.So big motivation for the home side they play with full team no important missings which is another good sign. Pepe, Bosingwa, Helton, Pedro Emanuel, Paulo Assunçăo, Lucho,Quaresma, McCarthy, Adriano and Raul Meireles all these players porto will miss tomorrow. Porto champ really don't care about this game even though it is a derby we can see it by them using there reserve squad.Odd falling on Boa in many places. Good Luck

I picked this from a picks site, and for me it makes sense. I have a feeling that boavista will make it through to UEFA cup!

There is no sense as this is a derby, coz this time there is the world cup my friends...

Boavista to win in my opinion!!

Any comments welcome!!

I think that the porto team won't risk any good players in a derby because they might get an injury and not play in the world cup!

Weather :

CONCLUSION :
V.Setubal has nothing to play for, they are ticking along in the mid-table area on the 7th spot safe from relegation and 6 poents far from Uefa spot with only one game left to play.In their minds is surely only the cup final so they could rest some key players in this game .On the other side Nacional is positioned on the 5th spot with 51 poents, but with only two poents more than Benfica who is 6th,so they need only one poent to secure their travell to Uefa cup.Nacional knows how to defend ,from 16 away games 8 finished with clean sheet and today with the return of defender Ricardo Fernandes they should not have problems in defense ,but in attack they are lacking a bit failing to score 9 times in 16 away games. All in all i except a slow game, maybe a low scoring draw could suit both teams well.

CONCLUSION :
The champions of Portugal BetandWin league FC Porto will travell to Boavista to play their last game this season. With a record (24 6 3) and 9 poents adventage from the second placed Sporting they surely deserved to relax a bit.Since they are playing in the cup final against V.Setubal they could rest some players in this match, but all this is not a reason why they should make the life easy for Boavista because the game between this two teams is always a derby. On the other side Boavista figting with Nacional for the Uefa Cup spot must win this game if they want to have any chances.Boavista could win this game but to pass the great Porto-s defence two times and score two goals will be a hard job.

just to confirm what you mean patobravo-

Nacional need to win because they'll miss out on goal difference if Boavista beat Porto!
is that correct?

BTW - are Setubal in the final with Porto?
and if so then will they be playing a weakened side today?
