Naval-Belenenses
Naval is doing well and even though they do not have that much quality they do have a decent coach and compensate the lack of quality with a big heart (at least so far).
They will try to get as much from home games as possible and today they'll face a Belenenses team clearly on a downtrend and with a lot of problems (club has no board, coach is under a lot of pressure, they have too many players, etc...a complete mess).
Belenenses is a better club and has better overall players but I think Naval will get something from this game and will add to Belenenses misery (a loss or even a draw will probably mean the coach will get fired...and when they're about to get fired they always get fired sooner or later...).
My pick: Naval PK (1.66);

Good luck!

Default Portugal - Liga Sagres

Hi, I'm a portuguese tipster and I'd like to post here some of my picks...

Academica - Nacional da Madeira

pick: Academica (0)
CET 2008/10/5 16:30

odds: 1.847
stake: 8/10
bookmaker: 10Bet

Unlike past years, the home team are shown good results at home... And they already beat Nacional away by 0-3 this year.
Off the field there's a kind of 'revenge' in Académica 'students' caused by Nacional coach declarations last season...
There's also the comeback of the main supporter group 'Mancha Negra' that means a major boost on players morale.

On the other side there's a renewed team with also good results away. But lost past weekend at home with some surprise, and that could invert the good results streak on the road...

I think there's a good value on home win or get it back... I'll take this game!

Soccer Re: Portugal First bwinliga ( 4/5/6/7 10 2008 )

Academica-Nacional
Team from Madeira is an unexpected leader in the table despite the home loss to Amadora last weekend. Surely they will move down even further in the table but they're usually a complicated team to face.
Today coach Manuel Machado is expected to have his team going back to a 3-5-2 system (used for example in Guimarães, where they won).
Academica also needs points here in their fight to avoid relegation. All is open here but I don't see Nacional losing this game.
My pick: Nacional +0.25AH (1.71);

Amadora-Trofense
Amadora coming off a great win away to Nacional are full of confidence.
Trofense just sacked their coach and this is the 1st game for their new coach Tulipa. Trofense have been scoring goals in all their games but still lost them all so far in the league. He said that his main concern will be to make them more secure at the back...if he manages to do that he might very well pull a result here as Trofense has quality anmd experienced players both in midfield and upfront.
Amadora is the clear favorite here so this is a risky one but I'll take Trofense not to lose today.
My pick: Trofense +0.5AH (2.10);

R.Ave-P. Ferreira
Both teams struggling to avoid relegation.
Playing at home Rio Ave is the slight favorite here but Paços de Ferreira will try to get something out of this game (I expect them to pack defense and look for set pieces and fast counter attacks).
R. Ave have 8 unders in their last 10 home games while Paços have 4 unders in their last 6 away games.
I see a tight game here and will go for the under.
My pick: <2 (2.10);

Sporting-Porto
A big game today in Portugal.
Sporting plays at home where they have an all time advantage over Porto of 41-15-18 (149-80 in goals).
Sporting is not in very good shape and some of the fans are not with the team but they usually get good results at home.
Today they'll miss Izmailov and Vukcevic the only players that really use the wings when they attack.
Porto is comming off a 4-0 defeat against Arsenal and nothing better than a game like this for them to try to bounce back.
I'm quite sure there will be some changes to the lineup today after the horrible performance at Emirates Stadium:
- Keeper Helton was left out and will be replaced by Nuno Espírito Santo (a good keeper but a substitute last season);
- Fucile will return to defense (which is good news for Porto. He's the only decent defender they have to play the wings right now);
- Pedro Emanuel is a solid Centre Back that was benched this season to give way to newly acquired (from Belenenses) Rolando (a HUGE mistake IMO)...but Rolando is failing to impress and I think it is wise to bring back Pedro Emanuel for this game;
- Another gap needing to be filled is the defensive midfield role where Porto lost Paulo Assunção and hasn't find the proper replacement until now this season. Pelé (under 21 Portuguese International came from Inter Milan in the Quaresma deal package). I think he's by far their best option and that he'll play for the 1st time today.
Having said all this, I expect Porto to play a tighter and solid game today and the way Sporting plays (more through the middle, unlike Arsenal that uses speed and the wings a lot) I expect a tight and low scoring game.
Last 6 meetings at Estádio de Alvalade were all unders, last 11 meetings between these teams were all unders and in the last 16 meetings between these teams 14 were unders.
My picks: draw (3.21) and <2.5 (1.56);

Good luck!

Week was going well in Football up until the weekend (I was 7-4-2 on Friday night) but had a horrible weekend in Football.
Whatever could go wrong, went wrong (starting with Belenenses not deserving it but getting the equalizer in the 5th and last minute of injury time...)...finished the week with a 13-19-6 record.

Tomorrow is another day and another week starts.

You're the 2nd person that I see asking that today modo (another one send me an e-mail...) ...ref's name is Olegário Bencarença.

Benfica fans don't like him (I don't like him myself...) since in a October 2004 game against Porto (which Benfica lost 0-1), he robbed Benfica big time: Midfielder Petit hit the crossbar from outside the box and the Ball bounced but went over the crossline like at least 1 meter...and he didn't consider it a goal ). So, anytime his name is mentioned Benfica fans call him a thief!
Still, the numbers show that Benfica has a 4-1-1 record when playing away from home with him as a ref.

Leixões-Benfica
Leixões are doing well and are top of the table. Like I've said a number of times before, they have some good talent upfront (actually attacking midfielder Wesley can play for any team in the Country IMO...he's been outstanding for the last 3 seasons both at Paços de Ferreira and now at Leixões) but suck at the back. Funny thing is that they have a couple of clean sheets in a row...
...Leixões coach José Mota said in the game preview that a tie is always a good result against Benfica. I guess that says a lot about how they'll play.
Benfica has a all time 16-5-2 record out of 23 league games at Estádio do Mar and I think they do have around 70% winning probability tonight.
They have all the momentum going with 3 straight wins and the last 2 in great fashion against Sporting and Napoli.
Right back Maxi Pereira will not pay tonight as he had to travel to Uruguay to play for his team (another funny UEFA/FIFA rule, the clubs pay the salaries but whenever needed the National team has priority...) but have Oscar Cardozo back in the team after being absent (suspended) against Napoli.
It will probably be a dog fight as any team in Portugal sees playing Benfica as the "game of the year" but Benfica should win with more or less difficulty as long as they continue to show the correct attitude.
My pick: Benfica (1.74);

Good luck!

Bad performance by Benfica (a team looking at taking the title just can't concede the equalizer from a corner kick 2 minutes from time ) + horrible officiating as expected...

Time for a 2 week break in football.

I should go on a break (I guess) but not yet...

My pick for today:

Setúbal-Marítimo
Two slow paced and defensive oriented teams in this match.
Setúbal has 5 unders in their last 6 overall and 6 unders in their last 6 home games.
Marítimo has 5 unders in their last 6 overall with the only over in their last UEFA Cup game away to Valencia when the ref called the most pathetic penalty against them in the last minute of the game (out of which the Spanish team made it 2-1).
There's also 8 unders in the last 10 meetings between these teams at Estádio do Bonfim.
At this price I'll risk the under 2 here.
My pick: <2 (2.01);

Good luck!
