Default Re: Germany - Bundesliga I (14-16 March 08)

Schalke v Duisburg

After 3 defeats in a row, the victory from Bielefeld helped them to keep contact and in first line to rescue Coach Slomka who shouldn't be out of danger yet though. Last weekend's performance at Bielefeld showed a better Schalke, facing a weaker team of course. Duisburg now is no team to fear as well, besides has missing situation relaxed - Pander is fit again and Jones also on boards which are 2 of the more important players.

Duisburg have to perform at their best to come to points, at least they made it to reduce gap to rescue in the last couple of weeks thanks to the struggling rivals in bottom. There was hardly a game though where Duiburg consistently played good football. The problems with set pieces could get fatal at Schalke. Ishiaku is injured so that offense nominally will look weaker than anyway.

Not the right time to back Schalke heavily but given the changes within the team and facing Duisburg now, a victory by 2 seems makable.

KSC v Frankfurt

Karlsruhe couldn't hold the pace of the late past so that thehad no chance against Bayern, at least they didn't built up a defence wall what would have destroyed the game. No need to worryabout the KSC though regarding what they're playing this season - especially at home with 4-3-0 in last 7. The recent 3-1 win over Wolfsburg was another alright performance.

Eintracht Frankfurt don't differ much from the KSC in terms of play. Both try to play ambitous footballl whereby Frankfurt sometimes put much focus on the road. They only drew to Bochum
but deserved more than that actually. Overall, the Eintracht didn't impress me much in last couple of weeks. The drive from their so far best season part has faded away a little.

Both teams seem pretty much on eye line. Frankfurt with the maybe slightly better squad but Karlsruhe surely with the better and more consistent football so far. I give the edge to the pretty well paid home win, not excluding the risk of a draw especially. With Karlsruhe pushing a lot at home (despite missing too much), there should be some place for the Eintracht also and thus provoke a few goals possibly.

Karlsruhe (-0.25) AH @ 1.85 bet365 4/10
Over 2.5 goals @ 2.05 betdaq 3/10

Cottbus v Bayern

Odds for the Bayern win are short as expected but considering the poor shape of Cottbus, they look wort a punt anyway. Cottbus have been horrible this year and now can't even rely on better performances in their home games defeating consecutively to Leverkusen, Dortmund and Stuttgart. Even if Energie lost games like this before, as harmless as they appear currently there are hardly hopes for rescue for them.

On Bayern side, Ribéry, Altintop, Zé Roberto and Toni are expected back in first XI after the 1-2 defeat to a improved Anderlecht midweeks. The Bayern defence didn't look as stable as used, still I wouldn't call such a game a downtrend. Bayern won the first meeting 5-0 to Cottbus, another victory over them should follow here.

Bayern (-1.25) AH @ 1.9 betaq 4/10

Hamburg v Dortmund

Hamburg actually didn't deserve to get kicked out of the UEFA-Cup. They never gave up and turned a 1-2 into 3-2 in a dramatic and good game, at the end this wasn't quite enough though. Anyway, Hamburg continued with their impressing home performances where scoring seems to have become fun for them. Missing situation has relaxed a little what means more option for midfield especially.

Dortmund in nowhere of table actually don't deserve something better regarding the shakiness of play. They still do hard to break good defence like in previous home draw to the Hertha. Dortmund tend to disappoint on the road in the meanwhile though so that I don't trust them to survive this one.

Bochum DNB @ 2.2 bet365 3/10
Stuttgart have been quite succesful recently but I don't see them in good shape if we neglect results. Well, offense can't be blamed after the 6-3 over Werder, still this was a close win at best even though this sounds pretty strange. Bochum can challenge them I reckon. Form has improved with the home wins over Hannover and Leverkusen, you first have to beat those. I just think value is on them rather.

I like the look of the Rostock odds besides but won't back them. They use to convince at home but recently, they didn't show the former force there. You never know with Hertha, they may sneak sth from there also looking more stable in the meanwhile.

No real value on the Hannover odds IMO. They should be favourites against Bielefeld but form of Hannover has been poor rather of late, hardly causing any danger with their forward play. Bielefeld have improved a little and maybe they even can surprise here.

For Sunday, I'll probably back Werder a little. At home they can be relied on, even without Diego. Wolfsburg haven't convinced me much despite a few good results, I don't think they will come to sth. Leverkusen hardly represents any value, the only reasonable bet could be the Over but possibly the best to stay away from at all.

The Hamburg pick from above looks good. The game that I am looking at for high score is the one in Werder - the hosts are absolute favorites, but Wolfsburg have scored away to much better defences, incl. Bayern. I am pretty confident they will score here too, so with reasonable stakes I am looking at Over 3 and Over 3,5 goals. True, Werder will miss Diego, but everyone who could potentially score is available - Almeida, Sanogo, Hunt, Rosenberg... Midfield with Jensen and Borowski is good, Naldo is the local version of Lescott, Harnik looks hungry for play...

Default Schalke - Duisburg

Schalke - Duisburg
Duisburg
will miss for sure: Bjorn Schlicke (19 appearences), Silvio Schröter (3 appearences), Manasseh Ishiaku (20a ppearences - 7 goals) and Michael Lamey(16 appearences).

On paper Schalke must smash them, but Duisburg is a team that is involved in a relegation battle and a man should expect everything from them.

Anyway missing their main goalscorer MSV should concentrate on their defence to steal something from Schalke's ground.

I don't like the odds for a home win so no bet for me.

Free bet: Schalke - Diusburg (0:1) 1

P.S. Sorry about mistakingSilvio Schröter's appearances. In fact he's not that important, taking part in only 3 games so far this season. I hope I haven't confused anybody.

In addition to the colleague's post I'll write the info I gathered about Hamburger - Dortmund:

Hamburger have to play only one competition 'til the end of the season and that is Bundesliga. HSV won against Bayer Leverkusen with a good display of footbal, but unfortunetly had to leave the Uefa cup. Reading the interviews on the Hamburger's site a man can get the impression that they really take very seriously Saturday game. Coach Stebens had assured that they had overcome the Uefa defeat. Van der Vaart heils the HSV fans for the atmosphere, they create: "It's fun to play here". HSV looks like in a good form right now, having scored 7 in their last 2 home games.

On the other hand, BVB has to play an important game in the middle of the next week for the DFB Pokal against Carl Ceiss Jena. Thomas Doll has admitted that this tournament is more improtant at the moment:
Doll
: The Cup semi-final against Jena is a very important game, because we can focus on the very brief way for the UEFA Cup qualifying. In the Bundesliga, it would be much more difficult. By participating in the UEFA Cup, we also have other financial options and could further strengthen the squad - and all earlier than planned. That is why the game against Jena, in fact, very important.
Have to say that BVB are missing some improtant players:
Klimowicz, Kringe, Kuba, Philipp Degen and Roman Weidenfeller.
Thomas Doll can again use the service of
Dede, Rober Kovac, Nelson Valdez and Marc Kruska.
Ex-HSV coach has shown his satisfaction of the fact that he can use all of his defencive players, after taking a lot of suspentions and injuries:
The interior defense Wörns / Amedick knew against Berlin to convince, as Kovac before his fifth yellow card. "For me, this is a good situation. I will keep the tension high. Times look who starts," Doll can all possibilities for the center on the defensive. After 15 Changes in 23 games, "due locks, injuries or form fluctuations," it was time, continuity in the defence association to get. "I prefer to play with a rehearsed Viererkette," admits Doll. It will be interesting to see who from the beginning of the trust.

HSV MISSING ONLY
HSV missing: Collin Benjamin (mourning case in the family), Romeo Castelen (rehab after knee surgery) and Juan Pablo Sorin, which are long term injuries.

Final thoughts:
Taking all into account, with the fact that BVB are not very convincing away from home (3-2-7), I think HSV have a great chance to win here. They are on fire now and should continue their winning streak.

I would not place this bet but with small stakes why not. Nürnberg isn´t that bad as it might look like. They have a lot of draws and no clear loses. They are very unlucky this saison. Some might call it also uncapable.

Leverkusen is really in form and score a lot of goals. So if i would place such a handicap bet against nürnberg than against leverkusen but as said clearly possible but absolutly no banker and with high stakes a real risk at least in my opinion
