Osnabrück v Freiburg

Right away a difficult task for promter Osnabrück. But they prooved last seasons and also in the cup and pre-season that they're capable of a pretty good offence football and that's exactly what they wanna continue even in this league. By times, they're treated as sure relegater but they should be capable of preventing that. In the cup game it was the more clever and concentrated team that won (Gladbach 1-0), so some experience still may be of need. Home strength could be a point for them being unbeaten since May 2006, facing lower-league clubs of course. Defence has routine due a few signings, some younger ones will put more dynamic into offence.

The play of Osnabrück may suit Freiburg as they will not find a pure defence wall to run against. The men from Breisgau surely belong to the strongest teams again, they just have to start better or let's say play a much better whole first season half. Through an outstanding year 2007, Freiburg nearly achieved promotion having been in bottom half a year earlier. It's the first year after coach Finke who was coach for more than 15 years. Iashvili, Riether, Antar, Mohammed and Coulibaly have left the Sportclub, quality also came back with the first-league experienced Butscher (D), Banovic and Günes for the midfield and Jäger as striker. The squad has more depth and quality this season, as a result there is a tough competition what should hold level highInjury situation has relaxed very much on time and physically, the self-confident team is in great shape. Only problem might be the short time a few players have had for pre-season and thus are not that much into the team yet. Pitroipa is fit, him and goalgetter Jäger are a really powerful offence. Banovic from Nürnberg is a big player for a second league. So quality advantage is with Freiburg and the away win should be the most likely result.

Freiburg 2.48 betfair 5/10

St Pauli v Köln

Popular St Pauli is back, they just gotta be in this league. They've shwon good football during pre-season despite many missings there, the recent cup victory over Leverkusen hasn't even been a strong game of them. The play can be better and that's what Köln should be aware of. Team is nearly complete again but like at Freiburg, it still might affect the form of certain players. Physically, Pauli has no problems to hold a big pace. Also Sankt Pauli is a team not much focused on defence with a drive of offence. Comparing the 2 teams, Köln nearly looks like playing a league up though.

Köln failed right in the first game and got kicked out of the cup by Werder's U23. They quickly were 2-0 up and failed to decide it early, what was punished then. Defence is a new one but still is the main problem, it looked quite shaky (despite players like McKenna or Ümit). On the other hand, offence is just awesome and without comparison in this league (Helmes, Novakovic, Vucicevic, Broich, Antar). Köln couldn't be under more pressure - they already had been before the cup game and now it's even heavier. There is just too much class not to have some offence scenes as reaction. It's been also a question of attitude often, consistency and lasting motivation are the needed points for promotion. Chances for the first win here shouldn't be bad at least. Köln is good for goals on both sides, offence play of Pauli also speaks for the over.

Köln (-0.25) AH 2.08 betdaq 4/10
Over 2.5 goals 1.9 bet365 4/10

No bet in the other game. Both teams suffer from missings. Besides, there have been offence problems of Aachen, Jena hardly has a striker left, Simak is unlikely to play yet. Rather home win and under id say but don't like the game and the odds. Have a good first Friday in the 2.Bundesliga!

While I completely agree with that statement, I cant, for a change, agree with the pick. Köln had an awful last season, apart from the game against Bayern most friendlies were bad and after a good start they fell together completely in the cup game vs. Bremen II. Why? Because as you already stated they have a good offense, a bad defense and at least right now dont work together well as a collective. That is the main difference to St. Pauli, who although being the much weaker team, make up a lot with their team spirit and their heart. Which, although they had many injuries then as well, Leverkusen already had to notice in their cup game there. You also have to keep in mind that they finished the last season in the Regionalliga without a single loss at home. Imho Köln first has to prove to us that they can be a reliable force this season. At first I was even tempted by the 1X here, but I will skip this match completely, too many tastier games available world wide....

Freiburg still misses first keeper Walke and although it is a new team and a new coach they produced quite a few Overs on their travels last season - especially in the later half of the season. Osnabrück, when in the mood, was also overish at home, and even one class above coach Wollitz wants to stick to a offensive gameplan with many playful elements. A style Freiburg also likes. As said: Not a clear cut Over like for example with most games of Cruzeiro, Lota Schwager or Mandalskameratene but for those good odds worth a try.

Good points, Over-God. You're right with the concerns about Köln. Maybe it's a little naive, but their further raised offence quality (defence only potentially atm) persuades me so much that I skip more or less the Köln picture of last season. Could be a mistake of course. The Bayern friendly was a farce due the lot rested Bayern players there, but what I heared was Köln doing well there anyway.

Must say the over in Osnabrück-Freiburg really looks like a good alternative to an outcome. I just like the Freiburg price given the good impressions they gave despite difficult preparations. That the complete team didn't have much time together is the main reason for me for skipping the over - it might be bad for my Freiburg bet as well but needn't they score twice or so automatically. I wonder what (and how many goals) we can expect from Osnabrück facing tougher sides now.

Can't resist the price for the under in Aachen-Jena. Must be that high because of the lot overish Aachen played last season. But as already mentioned seems Aachen's offence play not at its best shape and Jena know how to defend. Besides, on Jena side there is only 1 potential striker left who actually even don't wanna play this position. I expect Jena defensive, the under is realistic. 2.2 betfair 4/10

Yeah, maybe they will present themselves differently this season. Since I will skip that game as said, hopefully for your bet already today. But for me there are too many reasons not to trust them yet: Their lacklustre friendlies, the fact that they feel together after a good start in the DFB cup, the big confidence St. Pauli gained and displayed after their win against Leverkusen (in contrast to the disappointment on Kölns side after the cup exit) plus already the unrest again after they issued some official warnings to players. Daum said he sees those things a little more relaxed then the management, but still.... Hopefully for you and Densa they will deliver the goods.

I took the Koln overs, but considered the Freiburg overs too...they look about the same to me, so I'll just stick with the one bet. BOL everybody

Defence is stable but so far offence play has been lacking. However, there are many good and traditional teams in 2.Bl this year and even though the squad ain't bad I don't expect them to promote really.
