Last week Guingamp beat Reims 2-1 in a match that was expected to end a banker under 2.5 goals. A few of you have asked me for a report of the game so here it is Guimgamp 2-1 Reims Guingamp took a giant stride towards survival thanks to a 2-1 win against Reims at Le Stade Roudourou. The game itself was fairly tight and contained few chances but an 83rd minute header by defender Sikimic gave the Bretons the 3 points. This game was expected to be very boring and many had predicted a 0-0 scoreline. This probably would have had every chance of happening but an early goal can make such a huge difference. Guungamp were to get off to a sensational start as they took the lead in the 8th minute of the match. A long ball was sent forward and the Reims defence failed to deal with the danger sufficiently. David Suarez took advantage by controlling well before unleashing a cross shot into the back of the net for 1-0. Forced to get back into the game Reims abandoned their defensive tactics and went in search of an equaliser. On 20’ Baleguhe should have done better when in a good position but he fired into the side netting and then on 24’ Maspimby headed over the bar. Reims were starting to play some good football and eventually they were to find an equaliser on the half hour mark. A cross on the right was sent into the area and Maspimby headed into the net to net his first goal of the season. Amazing that it has taken this long for the attacker to get on the score sheet this campaign. The shock was that we had had 2 goals inside the first 30 mins and the game was wide open. Both teams had completely lost their game plan and attacked before the interval. No goals were scored but one of the teams could easily have got their noses ahead. However at half time the scoreline was to remain locked at 1-1. Guingamp were to start the 2nd period very brightly and on 50’ came very close to taking the lead. Abriel sent a superb pass through to Suarez but Laurent Weber made an excellent save in the Reims goal. Kader Traore also came very close for the hosts when his header again forced Weber into a smart block. Reims were under pressure but they managed to eventually settle down by about the 65th minute. Their best opportunity of the 2nd half fell to Lundblad but he shot wide when in a good position in the 72nd minute. With 20 minutes to go it looked as though we were destined to end in a level 1-1 scoreline but Guingamp still showed attacking intent and refused to settle for the draw. This was surprising but the gamble was to pay off on 83’ as they netted the winning goal. From a corner the ball was swung in and after a mix up in the defence Sikimic pounced to head the ball into the back of the net. The home crowd of nearly 10,000 were delighted that their team were ahead and there was a great atmosphere in the latter stages of the match. Reims were never going to get back level as Guingamp shut up shop nicely. At FT they had won by a 2-1 scoreline and deserved to claim the 3 points. The victory moves them up to 41 points in the table and they are now 10 clear of the relegation zone. With 6 games to go it seems likely they are effectively safe form danger. Reims though still have a bit of work to do as they are only on 38 points. However I think they are easily capable of making it over the 40 points margin and should have a fairly relaxing end to the campaign. The signs here though are that they have lost their defensive toughness and coach Thierry Froger will have to install a bit more discipline into his team. They are now only the equal best defence in the division as Lorient and themselves have both conceded just 22 goals this season.

Amiens v Sete This is a match which Amiens definitely have to win. They have a tough set of games remaining and this is by far the easiest they have. In their position they have to get the points to keep clear of that relegation zone. They have won just 2 of their last 20 games so form isn’t too good but at home I always fancy them against most sides. All season they have lost just twice at Le Stade Licorne and often play well in front of their own fans. The opponents tonight arte rock bottom Sete who are just an awful team. They are nearly officially relegated and should slump to defeat here. On the road they have lost 10 consecutive matches and failed to win away all campaign. I doubt they will be that motivated in this encounter and Amiens should be able to crack them open. The home odds are just @ 1.61 and this is a little short IMO. Remember Amiens have win just 2/20 games which is a worry. Instead I’ll go for the -1 AH bet which is at a better price. I’m gonna have to cover the 1-1 socrleine as well because Amiens often draw by this result. In all reality though they should romp to victory. Bet Amiens -1 AH 2.06 Betdaq 5/10 CS 1-1 6.50 Stanjames 1/10 (Cover)

Bastia v Dijon Well Bastia suffered that shock 5-1 defeat against Grenoble on Monday night and it will be interesting to see how they recover from that setback. I think they will bounce back well and will be desperate to claim the win against Dijon. The visitors have lost just 3 times away all season but 2 of them defeats have been in the last few weeks. The force just isn’t with them now and have suffered 3 straight losses. The time has come to take them on once again and Bastia are always so solid at home. They do welcome back players for this game so will be much stronger than against Grenoble. Bastia have won 9/15 at home and kept 8/10 recent clean sheets here at Le Stade Furiani. If they fail then the 0-0 is likely scoreline and I will cover that outcome. But I think the Corsicans can hit back well here. Their odds are around the 1.80 mark but I’m gonna take the -0.75 AH offered at Betdaq. I reckon they will win by more that a goal margin. Bet Bastia -0.75 AH 2.09 Betdaq 5/10 CS 0-0 8.0 Stan James 1/10 (Cover)

Brest v Istres Well Brest really need the points here in their battle to avoid relegation. Their next two games are home to Istres then Sete on Tuesday night. They need the 6 points in my opinion otherwise they will be fighting against much stronger opposition in their last few games. The Brittany side have won just 1 of its last 14 games and is currently on a 7 match winless streak. I have a feeling that they may end this run against Istres but I won’t be staking much in the outcome. The reason I have to bet Brest is because Istres are so shit away from home. The visitors have lost a massive 9/10 on the road in recent weeks and we have to presume that they will lose again. However their home form is good and they are well capable of getting a result here. I’m going very low stakes on the Brest win on the -0.25 AH. Bet Brest -0.25 AH 1.82 Betdaq 3/10

Chateauroux v Sedan Well at the start of the season both teams were predicted to be promotion contenders. Sedan have lived up to expectations but Chateauroux certainly have not. The home team still aren’t safe from relegation although they ended a 10 match winless run last week when they beat Clermont 2-0. The question here is whether they can hold off top of the table Sedan. The visitors are favourites for the win and they might well get it. My bet will be small stakes on the level ball AH but I think the draw is very likely in this match. Chateauroux are fairly hard to beat at home and a point a piece would probably be satisfactory. My prediction is a level game but if either is to win it then it will probably be Sedan. A home success would surprise me but not impossible. Bet Sedan (0) AH 1.88 Pointbet 3/10

Creteil v Clermont Well bookies have Creteil priced up as even money favourites for this match but it’s an error IMO. The home team just haven’t been playing well recently and need to be taken on for sure. Clermont are fighting for their lives at the bottom of the table and its essential that they get a result here in Paris. I reckon they can claim at least a draw and a victory has every chance of happening. Creteil just don’t seem to be very motivated now and have little to play for. Players wont want to pick up unnecessary injuries and are unlikely to be that committed. Creteil also miss key central defender Cyril Domoraud to injury in this match and he is the rock at the heart of their defence. I think Clermont can claim something here but they do have an awful away record. They’ve lost a massive 10 road games this campaign but have the ability to win and claim surprise results. But this would not be a surprise if they were to get something IMO. My only question is what type of AH to bet. In the end I’ve decided to go for the +0.25 at a better price but the +0.5 is just as acceptable. I’d like to be able to stake bigger on the visitors but their horrendous away record means I’m forced to just 4/10 stakes. Bet Clermont +0.25 AH 2.20 Betdaq 4/10

Le Havre v Grenoble This is an end of season irrelevant match and I don’t expect either team to be particularly aggressive. Both have done well to avoid relegation and have been in pretty good form recently. Le Havre have lost just 1 of their last 12 games whilst Grenoble have also been going through a good patch. On Monday they claimed a shock 5-1 win against Bastia so confidence will be pretty high. I just cant see there being a winner here and it has a draw written all over it IMO. These sort of games always seem to end all square and I reckon 0-0 or 1-1 is definitely on the cards at Le Stade Jules Deschauroux. It’s not often that I bet it nowadays but I’m going for the draw a couple of units. Bet Draw 3.15 Betfair 2/10

Montpellier v Caen Caen are in good form at the moment and bookies have cottoned onto the fact. Montpellier are nearly always favourites at home against any team but Caen are given the edge here and rightly so. They’ve won 7 of their last 10 games and are right back in promotion contention. Unbeaten in this period, the Normans are making a late push for glory and they must keep winning to remain in the hunt for podium positions. They miss just 1 player to suspension here (Thiam, a defender) so their squad is in good nick. Montpellier have lost 4 of their last 5 ligue games and their ligue season is effectively over. Most normal weeks they would be vrey hard to beat at home but they will probably be concentrating on the French cup. On Wednesday they play Rennes and no players will want to get suspended or injured ahead of this quarter final game. I don’t expect a great level of commitment and Caen can capitalise. The away level ball @ 1.88 is definitely worth taking because I doubt the visitors will suffer defeat. Bet Caen (0) AH 1.88 Pointbet 5/10

Reims v Laval Well Reims just need 1 more win to get themselves safe IMO. That victory could well come against Laval here tonight. They have lost just 2 of their last 11 matches at home and are always a tough side to beat. They have the best defence in the ligue and are often so hard to break down at the back. They’ve kept an impressive 8/11 recent clean sheets at Le Stade Auguste Delaune and Laval will find it very tough to score. I will bet on the home win here but I’m forced to go on the -0.25 AH. Normally 0-0 is an automatic cover bet with Reims but they still miss a number of players to injury including a couple of good defenders. 1-1 could easily happen especially as Laval would probably accept a draw. The visitors have lost a massive 10/15 on the road this season but are fighting for points at the bottom of the table. I reckon Reims could nick it 1-0 but there are a few dangers around as well. Bet Reims -0.25 AH 1.83 Betdaq 4/10

Gueugnon v Lorient Well this match is live on Eurosport France tonight and is the feature game of the evening. Lorient desperately need to keep winning in order to maintain their promotion push but they will have to play well against a Gueugnon team that is still unbeaten at home this season. The Burgundy side are still invincible here at Le Stade Jean Laville and they are the only remaining team in the ligue to have this record in tact. But they have maybe been lucky on a few occasions and have drawn more than they have won. Their aim now will be to keep this record and draws would suit them fine. They are safe form relegation so don’t have to be aggressive. At home they have kept a huge 10/15 clean sheets and are always so hard to break down defensively. They have actually only conceded 1 home goal in 2006. However unbeaten runs must end at some stage and I have a gut feeling that it will happen tonight. Statistically the best bet is Gueugnon perhaps on the AH market but I will be betting Lorient instead. There are a few factors why I think the visitors will win. Firstly they desperately need the points and can’t afford to slip up against anyone. Secondly Gueugnon miss two crucial defenders to suspension - Correia and Rodrigues. The former is the regular captain and is at the heart of their solid defence. This will be a key factor IMO and Lorient might just be able to take advantage. Les Merlus themselves only miss one player for the match and that’s important striker Kemal Bourhani. He will be missed a little but they do have adequate replacement. The match is also a TV game of course and Lorient often raise their game for these occasions. Gueugnon haven’t been on TV since October so maybe the pressure will get to them. Of all the teams in the ligue I have hardly ever seen them over 90 minutes this season so I’m looking forward to how they play. I think it will be pretty tight but Lorient might just nick it 1-0 . The best bet IMO is the visitors on the level ball AH. Bet Lorient (0) AH 1.89 Pointbet 4/10

| Well this is a crucial night and will be vital for both the promotion race and the relegation dogfight. I think we will see a mix of home and away wins with a few draws as well. The best bet of the night IMO is Caen (0) but Bastia are a decent shout and Lorient. The best value is probably the draw @ Le Havre simply because of the 3.15 price. My CS predictions Amiens 2-0 Sete Bastia 2-0 Dijon Brest 1-0 Istres Chatearoux 1-1 Sedan (although hopefully 0-1) Creteil 0-2 Clermont Le Havre 1-1 Grenoble Montpellier 0-1 Caen Reims 1-0 Laval Gueugnon 0-1 Lorient Best bet of the night - Caen (0) AH Best Value - Le Havre v Grenoble draw Treble - Amiens, Bastia, Caen Good luck all ![]()

Stadium is sold out for Club fans at the occasion of the game against Zulte-Waregem There are no tickets left for Club fans at the occasion of the encounter between Club Brugge KV and SV Zulte-Waregem, scheduled on the 30th match day of the Jupiler League, on Friday 7 April 2006 at 20.30h. Due to the massive public interest in the game, there will obviously be no Youth Sales action on that day......... The change of the manager brought seems to have brought new motivations to the club and to the supporters. Club Brugge will win this game for sure....packed stadium and new coach will surely want to make a good impression ..
