Bastia v Guingamp
This should really end in a home win IMO. Bastia lost last weekend and need to get back to winning ways. They have a great opportunity to do so against a Guingamp side inside the relegation zone. The visitors have only lost 2 of their last 8 matches but have now failed to score in their last 6 matches and really struggling for firepower. I doubt they will end this drought on Bastia either because the Corsicans are so strong at home. So far this season they have won 7/11 here in front of their own fans and have kept 6/7 clean sheets. The only possible danger result is 0-0 and I will cover but really this should end up in a straightforward home win. It may eventually be a tight success but I wont mind that.

Brest v Valenciennes
Brest are in a sticky period at the moment having won just 1 of their last 8 games. They currently sit just 3 points above the relegation zone and the pressure I on. Now they face promotion chasing Bastia and at the moment the visitors are in much better shape. All season Valenciennes have shown they have plenty of potential especially in attack. The Brest defence is pretty weak and they can take advantage I think. Also bear in mind that Brest have really struggled at home recently losing 4 of their last 5 here at Le Stade Francis Le Ble. A lot points to an away win for me but it is difficult to cover. Instead the best bet looks to be Valenciennes on the AH level ball.

Caen v Istres
I expect Caen to win this one against relegation threatened Istres. At home Caen always play well and have lost just twice here all season. Coming into the game they have won 4 of their last 5 in front of their own fans. Istres can produce at home but not on the road. They have lost 6/7 of their recent away games conceding a massive 18 goals in this period. Caen will be well supported here and always have a decent crowd. They also welcome back a number of injured players for this encounter. I expect a home win, the only danger result at 1-1 and I will cover.

Chateauroux v Laval
Both teams have a number of players out injured and are in bad form but I think the home team can win this one. Chateauroux have won just 1 of their last 13 games and have really struggled. However at home they are never easy to beat and all season have suffered just one defeat here. Laval travel here having lost 6 of their last 8 games and scoring just 1 goal in this period. Away from home they have been atrocious all season losing 9/12 games and keeping just one clean sheet. The home team may not be in the best of form but they should win this one against struggling Laval. The only danger I see is the 0-0 and will cover but this is a chance Chateauroux can ill afford to miss.

Creteil v Amiens
Creteil are currently on a good run of results and are unbeaten in 7 games. However it must be said that they have drawn 6 of these encounters. They have done well in this period though as they have missed many players. Now finally a lot of them return tonight and they are in decent nick. At home this season they have been a real force losing just once so far. I would expect them to produce against an Amiens side in bad form. The visitors have won just 1 away game all season and come into this encounter having won a measly 1 of their last 12 ligue games. Form is not good and this will be a tough trip for them. A 1-1 cover is definitely required though as both teams have a habit of drawing this scoreline. But if all goes to plan then this will be a home win.

Dijon v Reims
This will be a fiery encounter between two rivals that are situated relatively close to each other. Dijon had their unbeaten run ended last weekend against Lorient ending a 9 game period of invincibility. However Reims also lost last week for the first time in 15 games. it’s a question of how both teams respond to these losses here and I favour Dijon. They are the promotion chasing team and need the points. They have won their last 4 matches at home and are strong opponents. Reims miss a lot of players here and could struggle. But the fact remains that they are often well capable of collecting the draws and this is no game to stake heavily on. If I went big then I really don’t know what scoreline to cover so I’ll keep it small stakes on the home win.

Dijon 2.05 Betdaq 3/10

Grenoble v Lorient
Grenoble are always very hard to predict but often struggle against the top sides. In recent weekes they have lost at home to Valenciennes and Sedan so maybe the same will happen against Lorient. The visitors are promotion chasing and a very good side. On the road they are very solid and come here to Grenoble having won 4/6 recent away matches. They only miss one player for the encounter so their squad is in good nick. Could go for the straight away win but might as well go for them on the AH level ball. It minimises risk and covers any draw. Hopefully Les Merlus can produce the goods here.

Gueugnon v Sedan
Gueugnon are the only team left this season with an unbeaten home record. They are very hard to break down home or away and have kept 6/7 clean sheets already in 2006. They do face a tough challenge in table topping Sedan but the visitors have won just 4 of their last 11 games and have been misfiring a bit. The draw is very likely in this game but with Gueugnon so good at home they are worth a punt on the AH level ball. Id be surprised if Sedan won this game to be honest. I doubt that many goals will be scored but maybe Gueugnon can just nick one.

Le Havre v Clermont
Le Havre should win this match IMO. The Normandy club are unbeaten in 6 games and haven’t lost at home in their last 5. Clermont have claimed consecutive shock wins against Lorient and Bastia in recent weeks but I doubt they can win here. They just haven’t got the quality to keep this run up. Le Havre have a strong side and in front of their own fans are difficult to beat. I expect an easy home win really although the 1-1 CS doess need to be covered. Le Havre do have a habit of drawing by this scoreline.

Montpellier v Sete

at the moment I'm undecided what to bet for this game, Montpellier should win it easily but a gut feeling tell me Sete can get something out of the affair. After a good weekend i'm reluctant to go headlong with Montpellioer with a 10/10 bet. Their odds are a little skimpy and Sete did win last weekend so confidence will be high. Maybe some value in the AH -1 Market but currently I'm undecided and no bet

SportFootball (France)
EventMontpellier X Sete
SelectionHome -3/4 (Asian Handicap)
Strength10/10
Date27/02/2006
Bookmaker/Price10bet @ 1.74 (Back)
ReasoningNot only have Sete lost their last 8 on the road, but they also scored only once in them all. They have a 0-3-10 away record, which explains why they're 20th (last) on table.
Montpellier have not conceded in their last 4 games, but drew the last 2 at home vs. Valenciennes & Creteil (3rd & 6th). That extended their unbeaten run at home to 5, and I surely do not expect it to end here against this poor side of Sete, especially on the road.

A home win is a certainty, but by more than one is doubtful, so my choice would be to lower the handicap to -3/4 and bet on a home win.

That's it. Good Luck.

SportFootball (France)
EventMontpellier X Sete
SelectionUnder 2.5
Strength10/10

ReasoningAs I said in my other tip I'm inclined to think this should be a low scoring game with probably 1 goal in it. A max of 2 in fact, as I expect Sete not to score, and Montpellier should win it by 1-0 most probably, and maybe by 2-0. Hence this bet.

Good Luck

Ok circumstances have changed slightly and Montpellier -1 is now worth a punt @ 2.13. This is an AH bet and hoping that the home team can win by more than one goal. No need to stake heavily and 3/10 stakes are all that is required.

What's the change in circumstances, Meatman? Prices getting better, or some encouraging team news of some sort?

I'm with Youssef on Montpellier -0.75 anyway. In addition to Montpellier needing to win to keep their slight hopes of promotion alive, their goal difference is considerably worse than the top 3 (Montpellier are -2, Valenciennes in third are +12), so they could really do with scoring a few goals too. Of course, the fact they need to score goals doesn't mean they will, but at least taking -3/4, you get half a winner and half refunded if they only win by 1.

Good luck to all on Montpellier anyway

All very good reasons, although I was kind of hoping you were going to tell me Sete's first choice defence and their top scorer were all out injured or something
