Default Re: France Ligue 1 & Cup Final (29-30 April)

Lens v Lille
So then the 17:15 KO at Le Stade Felix Boleart. If Lens are to have any remaining CL ambitions then they simply MUST win this match but I’m not sure whether they can do it. Lille are very strong opponents and are unbeaten in 10 games. They currently hold the coveted 3rd position spot in the table and must win to keep other teams such as Rennes out of the position. However they would probably settle for a draw as it would eliminate one of their rivals in the hunt for the position.
We are likely to see a very cagey game with both teams reluctant to attack. This KO time nearly always produces under 2.5 goals and I expect this will be another low scoring affair. However, I said that about the Lille -Bordeaux match 2 weeks ago and it ended 3-2. I guess you just never know at the end of the season with matches and this might end up in some 6 goal thriller or something. The other major point of note is that this is a northern derby game so emotions will be high. Both teams have no new injuries, although important striker Dindane will be missed for the hosts.
As far as betting goes, there are few options IMO and bookies have everything covered. The line they give is pretty much what I’d figured out also and if there is any value then it is on Lille. But Lens are so strong at home having lost just once here all season. The atmosphere in the ground is always very strong and I enjoy watching their home games, despite them often being tactically boring. Unfortunately I’ll miss this match as I’m away at Ripon races but coverage will be broadcast on the net - channel ‘Goal TV2’. you can access it if you have TV Ants software. For me it’s a no bet game and my prediction is a low scoring draw of either a 0-0 or 1-1 scoreline.

No bet

Default Re: France Ligue 1 & Cup Final (29-30 April)

French Cup Final - PSG v Marseille
Well there are many big games on the French footballing calendar but this cup final isn’t normally that important nowadays. In the past teams have not taken it seriously but they are forced to now, such is Lyon’s domination of the ligue. Today’s final between PSG and Marseille is definitely the biggest game of the season and we are in for a mouth watering prospect.
Victory would be vital for both teams and would be sweet to claim success over their bitter rivals. For PSG this is their last realistic chance of a European position although Marseille are still in the hunt for the top 3. But for the Parisians its all or nothing and Guy Lacombe’s job is at stake. Having said that , his counterpart, Jean Fernandez is also under pressure and this result may possibly determine his future. Its an absolutely massive match and I really haven’t got a clue which way it will go.
Both ligue meetings between the teams have been a total farce this season and I lost out twice in them. Way back in the year Marseille won 1-0 thanks to a 79th minute Cana (ex PSG player) goal. I was on PSG that day but the controversy was surrounding ammonia poisoning in the PSG dressing room. Laurent Fournier (who was manager at that time) collapsed on the floor and players performance was undoubtedly affected.
The 2nd meeting was a disaster as Marseille played a 2nd string side in Paris. Eventually the match ended 0-0 and cost an awful lot of money to many people. PSG should have cruised it but in the end they were totally embarrassed. Here in their home city its essential that they put that incident behind them by claiming some silverware.
But it wont be easy and Marseille line up as slight favourites. But IMO either team can be separated and it could go either way. This one could easily end in a draw and require extra time and penalties to decide who wins. In my heart of hearts I hope that PSG win this game but I wouldn’t mid Marseille winning either. Whoever performs best on the day will get it hopefully.
Its in games like these that big players need to stand up and Pedro Pauleta is that man for PSG. He has effectively got them to this stage of the cup and his superb goals against Lille and Nantes have been crucial. Marseille though, also have many important guys and have had a tougher draw to get to this stage. It was them who beat Lyon in the QFs and then hammer Rennes 3-0 in the semis.
At the end of the day I just hope to see some exciting football tonight and am looking forward to it very much. I can’t split the teams although if I had to stick my neck out then I’d go for PSG. Definitely a no bet affair though and I wont be stung as I was last weekend when Nancy surprisingly won the ligue cup final.

No bet

PSG on the final 2-1 thanks to a couple of excellent goals. The Dhorasso strike was simply brilliant and what a time to produce it. I'm delighted for Guy Lacombe and his men as PSG make it into europe next season

well done PSG

Bordeaux v Le Mans
Thanks to Lens’ 4-2 win against Lille, Bordeaux can guarantee themselves champions lieague football next season if they beat Le Mans today. Motivation is going to be very high and they would love to cement their position in the elite of Europe. They certainly deserve to be there as they have been the 2nd best side this year behind Lyon. At home they have lost just once all campaign and been very solid in defence. They have kept 8/10 clean sheets at Le Parc Lescure in recent weeks.
Today they face Le Mans who effectively have little to play for now this year. It’s still possible that they could snatch a UEFA position or intertoto but that challenge would be gone should they fail to win this match. But I cant see them doing that and the visitors just haven’t convinced me on the road this season. Having said that they do come here with just 1 away loss in 7 fixtures.
But I’d expect Bordeaux to beat them today as they are simply the better team. The home odds are a little skimpy but the -1 AH looks relatively appealing. @ 2.25 I need only risk small stakes and there’s every chance they could win by a 2 goal margin. Le Masns were hammered 4-0 by Lille a few weeks ago and I’m hoping for a repeat result today.

Bordeaux -1 AH 2.25 Betdaq 3/10

Ajaccio v Nice
Ajaccio sit 8 points from safety with just 3 games to go. With a poor goal difference, they are all but down and they simply must win this match if they are to have any chance of avoiding the drop. In recent weeks they have won 2 of their last 3 home games and I think they can do the same again here when they play Nice.
Ajaccio aren’t that bad a team in all reality when they play here on Corsica its just that their home form hasn’t been as strong as in recent seasons. Nice are often poor away form home and have scored just 3 goals in their last 12 on the road . The visitors will also be suffering from their Ligue cup final defeat and have little to play for. It’s a match that Ajaccio will want to win and I can see them claiming a tight success. The -0.25 AH provides adequate cover.

Monaco v Nantes
This is definitely a no bet match IMO. As usual bookies have Monaco at a really short price when they aren’t that good and certainly not reliable. They come into the game unbeaten in 6 but can be so hit and miss. They somehow managed to beat Lyon last weekend but Nantes will be no pushovers. Les Canaris are also very inconsistent and capable of anything. They are unbeaten in 3 away games and could easily claim something. If Monaco were at a better price then I’d be tempted but IMO there is little value on them at this stage of the season.

Strasbourg v Nancy
This is a very marginal match and one which Strasbourg have to win. Their chances of survival are very slim and if Troyes win then they are definitely down. But they will want to end their home campaign with a victory but I’m certainly not going to lose money on them again.
All season they have won just 2 home games and god knows how many times I’ve backed them here. I’ve learnt my lesson to avoid them now and their odds are too short anyway. If they were a little bigger then I might consider, but Nancy wont be easy opponents. The visitors have only scored 3 goals in 12 games so are struggling to hit the back of the net but they have also kept numerous clean sheets. Anything could happen really and I have a gut feeling Strasbourg can win it. Definitely a no bet affair though for me though.

If Troyes win this game then they will survive, irrespective of Strasbourg’s result. They could well beat Toulouse but their price is shot enough. I’m never totally convinced with Troyes although they have won 2 successive crunch 6 pointers at the bottom of the table. They have been somewhat fortunate in these games though.
Toulouse come here with little to play for except pride and I can’t see them getting points either. Troyes should win it IMO, but there is no value on them. I’m going to leave this one alone and I just have a feeling this fixture will end in a draw.

Metz v Sochaux
Its still mathematically possible that Metz could survive, but in all reality they are already in ligue 2. They may be relegated but there’s no doubt they are good value to beat Sochaux. The visitors are a poor team and were hammered last week at home to Bordeaux 0-3.
We can get a level ball AH here on Metz and they will want to show they can still win matches. Sochaux have already lost a massive 10 away games this season and rarely manage to claim victories away form Montbelliard. The visitors also miss key striker Ilan to injury here so they will be pretty toothless up front. Metz will play without any pressure and it might be enough to see them through to victory. I expect them to be aggressive and we could see an entertaining game.

Lyon v St Etienne
All stats point to a Lyon win and also 2006 form. But this isn’t any old game, its huge derby match between two fierce rivals. It’s a shame nothing rides on this fixture really as it would have been interesting had Lyon needed points at this stage of the season. As it happens, Les Gones have been anything but impressive recently and maybe their CL campaign took a lot out of them.
At home they have been strong all year, losing just twice, but they have won just 2 of their last 7 at Le Stade Gerland. Les verts travel to Lyon unbeaten in 4 games, keeping clean sheets in 3 of these games. The CAN did them no favours in January / February and they are only just recovering after this unsettling period. The players motivation will be very high though and they are well capable of getting a result. Earlier in the season thy were the first team to keep a clean sheet against Lyon in a 0-0 draw at Le Geoffroy Guichard.
The value certainly lies with Les verts and I think a +1 AH is a generous handicap to give out. I just cant see them losing this match by a big margin and they are well capable of nicking a draw. If they were to win then their loyal fans would go hysterical. Id love to see them beat their deadly rivals but a draw would also make me happy

Bet
