Have backed Caen on the Double Chance this weekend. Both teams had disappointing Home and Away Records respectively last season but Caen are unbeaten in the last 3 meetings of these two teams and have collected a point in 2 out of the last 3 games at the Stade Louis II. They opened their campaign with a narrow defeat away to title contenders Bordeaux, and soundly beat strugglers Valenciennes 3-1 at home last time out. Monaco meanwhile, are unbeaten in their 2 games defeating Paris SG at home to open the campaign and then drawing away to expected midtable side Nantes. All in all, IMO the prices look a touch too much in Monaco's favour and I like the Even money for Caen to avoid defeat.

1pt Caen to win or draw vs. Monaco @ Evs (various)

Grenoble look a big price as well

GL all...

Valenciennes - Lorient

In last 9 last matches 8 Lorients matches have concluded with 2 goals and one with 3 goals and that one with a goal scored in 90 minute. Lorient have a strong defence and a very weak attack. They are not a very strong team so they want to draw all the matches or win them by one goal difference. In last 6 matches they have drawn 0-0 or 1-1 4 matches and won 2 matches by a goal difference.

Under...

Bordeaux - Nantes

Bordeaux finished second last year and they have bought some very interesting players for this new season. This season they have made a very bad start winning one match and loosing the other. But fortunately their main rivals for the tittle have 4 points, one more from Bordeaux. To keep the hope they have to win this match even because Nantes have lost one match and draw the other so this year they have not signed good players to remain another year in league 1. Home win.

LE havre - Marsylia

Marsylia in first game draw in game agains Rennes 4-4 ....in second they won at home 4;0 agains Auxerre.

Le Havre won agains Nice 1;0 and lose aganist Touluse 2;1 ...

Olimpique in actually season i think that will can fight on the top places.
They are having as good players and as strong team to win in Ligue 1

NIang , Ben Arfa , kone , Valbuena - this names say everyhing about the attack power which have Olimpique

Marseille -0.25 AH @ 1.90 Bet365 7/10

Marseille have scored a massive 8 goals in the two matches they have played so far, and their attack force looks to be irresistible at the moment. The trio of Bakary Kone, Mamadou Niang and Hatim Ben Arfa have been seriously firing on all cylinders and will look to maintain their good form this weekend. OM have lost Djibril Cisse to Sunderland on loan for the rest of the season but this was something that they expected and had prepared for. Eric Geret’s men have title aspirations and know that they must come to places like Le Havre and win. The newly promoted club started life in ligue 1 with a victory at home to Nice, although this was slightly unconvincing. They struggled last week away at Toulouse and there’s no doubt that it’ll be a tough test for them this year. Home advantage cant be underestimated and Le Havre will fight hard, but ultimately Marseille should have too much quality for their opponents. Defensively, OM haven’t looked that brilliant, but their offensive weapons should cause major problems to the Normandy club’s backline. Odds of 1.88 on the -0.25 AH line look to be fairly generous and deserve to be taken.

St Etienne DNB @ 2.20 Bluesquare 5/10

Both of these teams claimed their first victories of the new season last weekend, so will be eager to build upon their respective success in this match. It was a major shock to see Le Mans win 3-1 at Lille and they played fairly well against Le Dogues. Many people expect the club to struggle this season after losing many key players during the summer transfer window. And those fears were confirmed after a disappointing opening day defeat to Lorient. But now there will be more confidence within the squad, although they do face a tough match here against St Etienne. The visitors somehow lost at Valenciennes on the opening day, but realistically should’ve won. However, last weekend they were nearly back to their best in a victory over Sochaux. The key for les Verts is now to turn their strong home form into good results on the road. They have the quality, and on paper they are definitely a better team than their opponents. I have the feeling that Le Mans’ win last week might turn out to be a bit of a flash in the pan and I still don’t rate them that highly. If St Etienne can take their chances then they should be good enough to obtain the 3 points. I’m amazed that bookies have ASSE 2nd favourites for this match and odds of 2.20 on the DNB line are terrific.

Nancy straight win @ 1.90 Bwin 4/10

Nancy are still winless after two games and it looks as if this season will be much tougher for team than last year. In that campaign they got out of the starting blocks really quickly, but its been a different story this year. However, this looks to be an ideal chance to get 3 points facing a Toulouse side which hasn’t looked that good so far. They won last week against Le Havre, but even in that encounter they struggled a bit, certainly in the 1st half. This will be a tough test and its never easy playing at Le Stade Marcel Pichot. Nancy might not be playing as well as they did last year but they can never be underestimated in front of their own fans. TFC coach Alain Casanova will probably use defensive tactics and line up with a 4-5-1 formation. A draw would be a good result for the visitors, but I don’t think they’ll be able to obtain it. Nancy often find a way to win these sort of games and I think we’ll see a possible scoreline of either 1-0 or 2-0 here.

Lyon -1.5 AH @ 2.02 Bet365 4/10

Grenoble are really living the dream at the moment and sit proudly at the top of the ligue 1 table on 6 points. They are the only remaining team in the division still with a 100% record, but if they managed to maintain that statistic after this match then they’d have caused an almighty shock. This match is a bit like a David vs. Goliath clash and Lyon should realistically have too much quality for their opponents to deal with. Les Gones were held 0-0 at Lorient last week but were the better team and that was against a brick wall backline which is exceptionally difficult to penetrate. Facing Grenoble it should be far more easier and its difficult to see how the visitors will be able to get anything out of the game. They wont expect to avoid defeat, and although are sure to fight hard, ultimately the hosts should claim a convincing win. This is a bit of a derby match which adds a bit of spice to the encounter, but I doubt it’ll be close. The question isn’t whether Lyon will win, but by exactly how many. Odds of 2.02 on the -1.5 AH line are way too big, we wouldn’t have got these odds had Grenoble not had such a great start to the season. But the Alpine club’s results have been masked and Lyon are a different class.

isn't this also a bit of a derby clash between these west coast clubs?

I like at least a draw in the Sochaux v. PSG match. the home side have lost their last 2 and PSG have made the move for several good veteran players in the off-season can't see them residing at bottom of the table this season.

edit:

going to try a draw treble

Bordeaux v. Nantes
Sochaux v. PSG
Monaco v. Caen

Lorient DNB @ 2.50 Bluesquare 3/10

Lorient remain unbeaten after they managed to graft out a 0-0 draw at home to Lyon last week. Les Merlus are an exceptionally hard working unit and a very difficult to penetrate. They have yet to concede a goal this season and they will eye another clean sheet here at Le Stade Nungesser. Valenciennes already have 3 points on the board thanks to their fortunate opening day victory against St Etienne, but as usual, their away woes continued at Caen last weekend. Nevertheless, even in that 1-3 loss there were a few positives to take out of the encounter and coach Antoine Koumbouare will be relatively satisfied with his side’s start to the campaign. This is a fixture in which Valenciennes have a very good recent record, but Lorient look to be a better side this season. You can never underestimate VA at home, but I feel the visitors will be hard to break down and will set out their stall to defend. I doubt many goals will be scored so perhaps the best option is to bet on the under 2.5. A stalemate is definitely on the cards and just 1 goal would probably be enough for either team to take the points. Valenciennes players might be rocked by the heart attack of defender David Someil this week and their minds might be focused elsewhere. So I'll have some small stakes on this DNB handicap.

Default Re: France - Ligue 1 (23-24 Aug 08)

Last week's results for Lille and Lyon reaffirmed the danger in betting on favourites this early on in the season and especially with high stakes. So, I will go with low stakes and higher odds this week.

Le-Havre - Marseille: Marseille win @ 2.25 (stanjames) 6/10
Marseille is the better team on paper and has indicated a tremendous ability to score. Le Havre are newcomers to the league and I think the class difference is too wide. Marseille should win this.

Valencienne - Lorient: Draw @ 3.00 (sportingbet) 3/10
Valencienne is expected to have problems this year, but are sound at home. Lorient has shown to be solid so a draw is likely among two teams who don't appear to be great goal scorers.

Le Mans - St. Etienne: St. Etienne Win @ 3.10 (Bet365) 3/10
Le Mans shocked Lille last week and St. Etienne easily won at home. I think Le Mans' win was a fluke and St. Etienne is the better team that should win this match. It will be tight, but the visitors should prevail.

Sochaux - PSG: PSG win @ 2.91 (BetDaq) 3/10
Sochaux could be in for real trouble this year. I have a feeling their going to struggle and will fight relegation all season long. PSG, although it is early, have shown to be in solid shape (defeated title contenders Bordeaux last week) and maybe in a position to be a team to reckon with this year in France. Their win offers good value, I think.

These 4 matches will be played as a parlay (about 60.00 odds) at one of the books with a bet strength of 1/10 (just for the fun of it).

Good luck to all with their bets and let's take some money from the bookies!!

Bad News indeed regarding the Marseille fans... What can one say with things like this...

Marseille won it in the end and reduced my losses tonight to a bearable level.

Valencienne continue to be a force at home... Might save them this year.

St. Etienne seem to have issues as visitors. They can't expect to be competitive if they can't get points on the road!!

PSG didn't come through in the end, but again showed that they should not be underestimated. We'll have to see if they can win on the road though.

Tomorrow is another day...hopefully better for everybody!
