Soccer Eredivisie European Playoffs

Right, I know a lot of people of confused by how the Dutch are allocating their European football places this season so i'll put this up and hope it makes it easier for you all now the domestic season has finished.
PSV are Champions are go straight into the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
2nd - AZ
3rd - Feyenoord
4th - Ajax
5th - Groningen

AZ v Groningen
Feyenoord v Ajax

Losers go into the UEFA Cup - Winners play each other for the remaining place in the Champions League. The losers of that go into the UEFA Cup.

6th - FC Utrecht
7th - Heerenveen
8th - Roda JC
9th - FC Twente

FC Utrecht v FC Twente
Heerenveen v Roda JC

Winners play each other for a place in the UEFA Cup Losers may go into the Intertoto (Not 100% sure of that yet!)

10th - NEC
11th - Vitesse
12th - RKC
13th - Heracles

NEC v Heracles
Vitesse v RKC

Winners play each other for a place in the much maligned Intertoto Cup.

If anyone knows any different then please state so as my Dutch isn't the best, yet!

This is brilliant, i though Ajax had lost all chances of a Champions League spot but apparently not.

Cheers for the info!

Riddiculous that a team like Utrecht still have a chance to qualify for CL

No, no, no. Ridiculous that a team so average like Ajax can qualify for the Champions League!
Its a bizarre plan from the Dutch! Interesting to see how long it lasts!

yeh agree Ajax don't deserve this at all

if there is justice then AZ and Feyenoord will meet in the final. And I suppose AZ go on to make it through.....................

hello guys.
i am not from holland but if i am not that wrong, groningen finished in 5th place and utrecht in 6th place. so, groningen will challenge az alkmaar on the way for a champions league place.
ish't this right?

Hi guys

I am not a big poster on the threads, but as I am Dutch just some short info. Also in Holland a lot of people get confused with this new play offs system. There is a lot of discussion about it overhere with a lot of different opinions. I myself think it's ridiculous. AZ has worked all year long very hard to achieve what they have achieved and now they could well be surpassed by Ajax for example. Doesn't sound fair, does it? Why bother to get second if fifth place can be sufficient...

For AZ the match-up with Groningen is not a done deal. Groningen has only lost once at home this season (to Sparta) and has beaten Ajax and PSV at home, while drawing against Feyenoord and AZ. Apart from PSV they have the best home record in the league. Also the move to their new stadium (last January), where the atmosphere and support from their fans has been fantastic, has given them a boost. Their league record in the new stadium is: W6 D2 L0. In Alkmaar Groningen also deservedly took a point from AZ. I am not saying here that Groningen are the favourites in this match-up, but keep the above in mind.

Feyenoord-Ajax is also a tough one to call. Feyenoord won both legs in the league against Ajax, but I think Ajax's moral has gone up quite a bit after the relief of having managed to get to the CL play-offs. Ajax' chairman and some of the players have also mentioned the fact they want a revenge on Feyenoord because they produced a DVD of their double winning encounters with Ajax this season. I think they will be fired up.

Looking at it from the point of view of AZ-fans this is of course correct, but looking at it from the view of the clubs (extra income) - fans (more suspense in last games), the KNVB-sponsors and us (more betting chances) i think this is marvellous.

Anyway, AZ knew that from the beginning of the season, so they can't be complaining now that it's not honest, if they would have finished 5th they also would have been pleased still to be able to compete for the 2nd CL-ticket...

Think it's a good idea and i will surely watch the games on my pay tv channel

Great post. No need to hide away when you can produce quality like that.
Hope to see you here during the playoffs and when the new season starts.

SportFootball (Holland)
EventRKC Waalwijk - Vitesse
SelectionVitesse
Strength5/10
Date19/04/2006
Bookmaker/PriceUnibet @ 2.90 (Back)
ReasoningPlay off. These two sides are playing for 400.000 euro and if Ajax wins the Gatorade Cup both Rkc and Vitesse will also have the chance to qual for the intertoto.

RKC finished their season in a poor way. They were 7-5-6 at home but they lost six and draw one of their seven last outings.Virgilio Teixeira,25/1),Ruud Berger,10/1) Anthony Lurling,14/1),Benjamin de Ceulaer,25/7),Jochen Janssen,20/3),Maarten Martens,21/6),, Cerezo Fung A Wing,3/0),Michael Krohn-Dehli,17/0 and Robert Fuchs,21/1) are all still missing trough injuries.

Vitesse finished only five points above Rkc and were poor away from home this season. But Vitesse only lost two out of seven last outings this season.

RKC top scorer Rick Hoogendorp(12) was sold earlier this season and for this play-off clash they are still missing their two most scorings players Martens and De Ceulaer amongs others.Vitesse won three and draw three in six last prev encounters with RKC.Vitesse only lost 3 out of 26 previous meetings and(13-10-3) and are 5-5-3 at Mandemakers Stadion.

Medium stake on Vitesse to take their fourth win in a row against RKC

Heracles-Nec:

Heracles is in good form and hat not important missing today..Nec hat some problems,1st GK Babos, topscorer Niedzalen(10 goal),David Jones(6 goal) and MD Pothuizen missing today..Nec is out of form and morale while they draw with Vitesse in the last league match(it is a hot derby Vitesse-Nec) and hat important missing..

Heracles....7/10
