I'm in favour of keeping things the way they are. A more restrictive forum wouldn't encourage the "right" sort of newbie to spend much time here, so it is a bit narrow-minded, in my opinion.

The easy solution is, instead of people whinning who can see the public value tournaments just dont post them and let the people find there own value tournaments

Just to give another example of lurkers turning into contributing members, a few have said they found us through the Champions League. (Thanks guys ) In a closed forum, that thread with the table would have been in the private section, since it would have provided us with an advantage in seeing the points ahead of the site publishing it.

I've lurked on another forum recently (just to view one thread, thanks morls ) and been really irritated by the fact there is advertising between every post on a thread. Made me think I'd never sign up there, til I read the bit at the bottom saying to avoid the ads you needed to sign up. But since I only noticed that bit about the 3rd time I'd been in to look, I wouldn't recommend it as a way forward.

On another forum, I was only allowed to lurk for a certain amount of time before it wouldn't let me in any more unless I signed up. I didn't stick around.

I can agree with the sentiment about not leaking details of value tournaments outside of our members, but can also see how making them public can benefit PL as a whole. (where's that fence )

How is that a solution? How does it benefit PL?

Come on guys, see the bigger picture here, I have to say there's a degree of selfishness here, which is disappointing.

I agree with Paul here, the issue of "lurkers" on the PL goes back a long way, and there have been many discussions. They drive revenue which keeps the place open and helps PL value tournements, race days etc etc.

Private forums don't work, if people are that concerned about value then why would you post then even in a closed forum.

The PL is about cooperation and teamwork, that was its founding purposes after all.

lol.... would that have been the thread I was involved in?

Oh, about the advertising between every post..... its only there if you're not a member, if you sign up all of the adverts disappear - its supposed to make you become a member to get rid of the adverts, although that fact isn't publicised very well...... Edit - if I had read on I would have seen that you found that out anyway.

thanks Alex. Interesting sometimes what you find when you google your name (well, not mine, but you know what I mean.)

Hi Alex, I saw that and it was a total disgrace. Anybody remotely associated with that guy should be ashamed of themselves.

Well done

i`ve got no idea,,thing is if he channeled that agression into his poker rather than mouthing off all the time,he could be a top player...
i did hear a story once about him turning up at a live game with black-eyes, and when he dissed Duncan off on Matt Dales forum he backed out of going to their xmas dinner cos actually realised he had gone too far
