Default IP Closing

Morning Gents

I started writing this in the poker mags thread then realised it was becoming a thread hijack so I moved it here for the 1-3 people that might be interested in hearing what I have to say

Thanks for all the kind words, and in particular to Martyn. I think I might print that out and show it to my mum! Don't worry about me, I'm still in gainful employment, but I won't lie it's a real dissapointment to be closing IP.

I loved working on it and I was hugely proud of it as a title and the team there were easily some of the most talented people I have worked with. But market conditions will prevail and IP will now carry on as a trade title InsidePoker Business, with PokerPlayer as our consumer title.

It's a reflection of the mature UK poker market, and I will be staying on to do the business title and a few other projects at Dennis. Our old team will be helping me out with those with the exception of Paul Cheung who is moving to PokerPlayer as features editor.

Personal highlights are too many to mention, but having thanksgiving dinner with Ivey, and interviewing the great man at his home stand out. Also playing in Aruba, the WSOP and some top nights out at the GUKPT. And in all seriousness that trip to the WSOP with WASP, teaulc and VoJ and Jon Woodfield was one of them.

They are all great lads, and it was a pleasure hanging out with them. And seeing a reader (Jon Woodfield) go really deep in a WSOP event after he won the seat in your freeroll is a great feeling. I felt like a proud dad.

Sadly there will be no more IP freerolls or qualifiers, but I hope you've enjoyed them all over the years and got some value from them. PokerPlayer will still have plenty though and I should be around at various events in the UK next year so will maybe see some PL qualifiers there.

Anyway enough self-serving sh*** from me. Good luck in your poker and I'll still be hanging around PL like a bad smell.

Cheers
Alun

All the best Alun and rest assured that you did help produce the best poker Mag of the decade. Been a subscriber since the Inside edge days so it will be well missed in this household, the fact that i won over $20,000 in various promo's in the mag has nothing to do with my feeling of loss.

Out of interest were you about when Inside Edge started to cover poker?( or even when it was) It was brilliant to get poker info back in those days , Think it started as one page then two before we knew it was half the mag before the eventual transformation into Inside poker

No I joined at the end of 2005 as the poker and casino 'expert'!! Then I got a quick promotion when the editor left to join the Sportsman.

I did used to read it back in those days though when I was editing another mag. It's amazing to think that was the only place you could read about poker back then....

Yep he's fine. Moved on to bigger and better things in a different department within Dennis. His move was not related to IP, the timing was just a conicidence.

Yep that was my favourite moment as well

Alun

So sad to hear this, even sadder I may have to get an inferior mag now. I've always enjoyed your company (even though you are Welsh). You have my number if you are going to an event let me know and we'll go deep together.

Shame to hear this, it's the only poker mag i've ever subscribed to.

There's a video of Ivey being interviewed during the WSOPE and he's got a copy of IP in his hand but wouldn't put it down cus he'd lose the page he was reading

Will try and find it as it's the best Ivey interview i've seen, he's really open in it and is reading IP!

Found it

I was going to write a letter to the editor this week stating what an ironic fool Mark Goodwin is for his usual rant...blah blah internet players...blah blah I can't get sponsorship

Never mind I'll just paint my new banister instead

As a subscriber to both IP and PP mags I am disappointed that it is IP that is being discarded...I consider it the superior mag of the two.

Inside Edge was the best poker mag out there - - I subscribed right at the beggining when it was a half sports gambling/half poker mag. I learned so much from the features and I was lucky to win last years pokergod freeroll for a caribbean cruise which was absolutely amazing -- It did my confidence no ends of good and this year has been a real good poker one for me.

So thanks to all at Inside edge for a fabulous read every month -- I will miss it real bad.

cheers again
