I have the same question. As a bit of a poker newbie, i'm not yet confident enough to play cash games and so am solely entering freerolls or low-level buy in MTT's.

Is it still worth using this type of software for tournament situations?

Sorry missed this

Yes - essential for cash games, questionable utility for tournaments......

In tournaments, you're moving through the gears, so your opponents games are constant/consistent enough to be able to really read the data in the same way that you do in cash games....

I don't usually use software in tourneys, but if I do, I prefer something simpler like Poker-Spy, just to recap the last 17 hands.......

How the flying foob do you use pokertracker? I've installed the free trial but then what? There's about a million different options and on 99% of them a warning message pops up in the middle of the screen. Needing it for ipoker btw.

Any help appreciated!

You should have a button "auto import hand histories from ipoker network" (it's the 15th button on my version).

Make sure you have something in the "Hand History Folder Location", then "start timer" (I have it every 1 minute).

Then use Gametime + (3rd party software, but free) to give you a live overlay on your table......

PokerOffice is a lot more automatic......

Cheers . Still coming up with error messages and nothings happening, can't really be arsed with the hassle though tbh. Pokeroffice was great apart from it died after 5hands and was screwing up my table i was on .

I've also never used poker tracker mainly a sit n go player but playing a lot of cash now and realise the importance of this tool. I've downloaded the free trial but can't make head or tail of it.
Any chance of some quick info on how to get started, your comment would be very much appreciated (prima network).

The absolute tops is http://www.bet-the-pot.com/poker-tra...ne-page31.html There are 7 parts to it - Part IIa is very important (download the new autorate rules and understand what your opponents icons mean...) - I think that will help you far more than any brief explanations we can give in a few lines ....

Prima is quite straightforward - there's an "auto detect" button for the hand histories ... so you dont need to know where they are stored.....

There is also an ebook guide quite widely available on torrents that gives a lot of info....

I was farting around at Stars trying to be disciplined. I donked and titled away my Stars roll (not my poker roll, just the stars roll I tried to take seriously ). Had some PKR money in the account when I was trying it out so played there and the game is quite easy. A LOT of fish around - wont post any HH's here though as it's not the place. Any set that you flop on a board with no big flush draws should generally pay you off quite handsomely.

Cheers fella. And yeah Stars is notoriously tough, but i'll have a gander at pkr, and most likely turn into a fish myself .

Take a look at my "Crouchie's Questions Thread" a bit later on. I'll post some PKR hands you can have a look at.

I heard someone earlier refer to playing on Pkr as playing in fish tanks not tables. Never a truer word spoken

The animations completely deflect from the cards and it can be VERY hard to keep track of what is actually happening. In one instance i won a big pot and couldn't find out what the other guy had, after 5mins of searching all the rhubarb which surrounds the table i finally see that he mucked his hand and i have no idea of knowning what he had unlike on other poker sites where you can check the hand histories this one had virtually nothing on that i could see . I doubled up v quick on there with top pair which was called by a fella who had bottom pair deuces, yet he seemed quite peed off about it ... Quite a gimmicky thing but not for playing true poker imho.

Oh yeh and one guy got the bullets 3 times in 5minutes!!

Even though i've had a few problems with the free trial i'll try the chance to get poker office free for a year after signing up with Titan, just need to get up to 250pts then hopefully i should get it for a year This comes after i finally managed to get the hand histories into it but it only shows 300hands with the free trial which was pointless and the $75 or whatever it was seemed a bit steep so i'm chancing my arm as it were. Another good thing is Titan uses the same interface as PaddyPower so i feel reight at home so the points should come quick!

I'm also going to endorse Poker Tracker. I started getting some decent results with only using the 1,000 demo.

The $55 purchase price for the Hold em version seemed real good value to me. But I downloaded a torrent of a slightly older version off Bit torrent, used the key gen program then applied latest patch, viola free fully functional version of poker tracker :>
