It's not ideal, but provides a decent starting point. Just tweak it to suit how you normally play.

I chose Neteller almost at random to be truthful, but I've been pleased with their efficiency and customer service. They are extremely helpful and courteous.

So I opened my Neteller account and then started to draw my winnings to it, because poker.com had started to lose some of its appeal, purely because I was becoming more involved in other poker sites, such as Sporting odds and Blue Square. I was as nervous as hell because I was expecting the worst, but I ended up having a nice wedge (by my standards) sitting there waiting.
Hey Mr V,

After reading this I thought hey sounds like a good idea and after reading FT's vegas diary I thought sod it,withdraw winnings and I can put them towards a trip to vegas next year

I have opened an account with Neteller and deposited a couple of hundred dollars (bulk of which was from the virgin freeroll) to start with BUT have just noticed a disclaimer on Netellers front page saying if they go bust etc you will lose any money you have with them. Now are they an American company and is this sort of thing standard ? Just a bit concerned thats all. Anyones thoughts please.

Oh sh't!!!!

Obviously I can't comment on their lquidity as a company, but the guys who are more organised with their sports betting suggest emptying all accounts periodically - every mth, 3mth's etc.

What I have noticed is that in the time that I've used them Netelller has grown in popularity with Poker rooms, and I personally have no problems with them whatsoever (yet ).

However as regards the disclaimer I would imagine that is just a standard clause for American financial institutions.

Reading the small small print give's the following info;

Corporate headquarters - Douglas, Isle of Man

NETELLER plc is a publicly traded company on the London AIM exchange.

NETeller UK Ltd is regulated by the Financial Services Authority in the United Kingdom as an electronic money institution. NETeller UK Ltd FSA Register Number: 229737. In the absence of comparable e-money legislation in the Isle of Man NETeller Plc is not regulated by the Isle of Man Financial Supervision Commission but endeavours to adopt best practice in corporate governance in relation to the holding of client's money.

Also, I just gave their customer services a quick call, and they informed me that they do have a fund available to cover liabilities in case of insolvency....but I would imagine in those circumstances you would recieve a small % of your actual balance.

Been thinking about getting a Neteller account. What kind of fee do they deduct when you want to deposit/move money around?

I just recently withdrew by bank transfer £100 or so and was charged my first fee of £1 (fixed fee), not percentage.

I've emailed asking for a price list.

I have just read this thread from the beginning and wish I'd known of it when I started playing.

I have a Betfair account and as they have a poker room I joined and played for play money to start with, then played a few low limit cash games with no success.

I then played some £1 sit and goes with little success but was told about freerolls by a player on that site.

I joined Poker.com and played in their $100 freerolls and won a few small amounts which I used in their $2 sit and goes, I now have over $50 with them.

I joined Sporting Odds after reading about it on PL and find their freerolls appear easier to win (less people playing) and liked the look of the $1 tournaments so made a deposit with them, yesterday I won $2.20 in their Safety net so need not have bothered yet.

I have also got over $10 in Bet 365 from freeroll winnings and about $10 in TruePoker.

I have not got a Neteller account but will probably do so in order to transfer funds from one account to another.

I am still learning the game and my aim is to win a Multi table tourny, the best I have done so far is 8th.

I had a little win on Monday in a Betfair MTT, but at the moment I am trying to start making regular wins in STT's and take my game to a level approaching the better players on PL.

Hedonist, I'm pleased you like it.

It is the beginner that this thread is aimed at really. When I joined PL if it wasn't for the advice, support and guidance of Gaf? I would have quickly become lost and confused due to the variety of tourneys on offer (and the different terminology).

I thought about the new members joining after me and saw one or two disturbing posts about people who possibly knew less than I did about poker and had already talked about losing thousands!

I figured that seeing as PuntersLounge's experienced gamblers encouraged ensuring a profit that this was a decent example of how someone could start.

A new way to get some start up money on poker.com is to pay 100 play money chips and win through 3 SitnGo tourneys. If you do they give you $1 real money! woo hoo!

Hi Valiant,

I just wanted to add to the thanks and "well done's" above for this great thread. I initially read it a month or so back and it has really helped me get started in the world of poker (which can be absolutely baffling for a beginner!).

To cut a long story short, I've now got $90 in my Blue Sq account, mostly thanks to winning the bankroll booster last week - but I now find I can pick my hands more confidently and generally speaking, finish in or around the money. Not massive amounts I know, but a definite start

I hope to join you guys in some of the league games you have got going in the not too distant

Hey, just started poker for fun with 2 cents / 5 cents limit on bet365 poker's room. And it is damn fun !! However I heard the term free roll and I decided to check it out. But I'm confused here. For example :

Quote:
Wednesday 14th September
$17.76 Mansion BB Freeroll $5145 (plus $1000 Bounty) for 346 players who have played 25H Blackjack in preceding week. Runs weekly for 4 weeks
How does that work ? How do I know if I want to enter that competition is free or not ?

What does $17.76 means ?

Sorry for the silly questions.

Regards,

The $17.76 is what it would cost you to enter a similer tourney with the same prize fund and the same entries ie $6145/346 = $17.76.
To qualify you must play 25 hands of blackjack but as we all play perfect blackjack on here that wont cost you much more than a $1.00

Prima freerolls have an entry of 10,000 for a $1000 fund therefore the value to us the punter is $0.10
To find out if it is truely free just try and enter it if it tells you cannot then you must need to do something such as play 100 raked hands at the cash tables.
So the tricky bit is trying to work out if you can lose less than the value of the entry to the tourney at the cash tables.

This is the important thing for me, for the Sporting Odds 50up freeroll I know I can qualify easily at low cost, the same for the Blue Square bubble but earning 100 or 1000 raked hands in a week on sites I do not normally play scares me, I think I may lose more that the entry value.

To be fair though the 'value' aspect shouldn't really bear too much influence on whether a new player plays them or not.

Obviously they should try and play the better value freerolls, but at the very early stage of any poker career its just about logging on, regging for the freerolls and trying to make yourself a bankroll with the poker sites money.

The thread that you got that quote from relates mostly to non "genuine" freerolls - i.e. you have to "earn" the right to play in them...... if you are a beginner then the recommendation HAS to be not to go for them - as it will almost certainly cost you more to qualify than it is worth ..... in fact as a beginner I would say you should not be playing cash/ring games at all ...... you should be playing freerolls and small buy in tournaments.....
