Default Poker odds

Hi,

Can some one tell me the odds for hitting a pair on the flop/turn/river please. Say you have AQ what are your chances of you hitting a pair.

Also what is a donk bet on the flop?

New stuff to me this

thanks,

Paul

the chance of each card coming out is roughly 2%, so with 5 cards to come, the chance of any specific card coming out is 10%.

Say you hold AQ, there is a 30% chance, to pair either one by the river, and close to 60% chance that one will pair.

donk = donkey, so it's a bad bet.

If you have a pair of Jacks, there's about a 57% chance of at least one overcard flopping.....

It's actually closer to 50% (just under), because when you multiply 10% by
six (for the six cards that pair you) to get 60%, you're double-counting the
times you hit two of the aces/queens.

With reference to the ''Donk Bet''...I like being accused of this as 95% of the time you have won the hand and taken some arrogant player's chips!

a donk bet is a bet into the preflop raiser, eg. button raises pre, you flat call in the big blind and bet rather than check the flop to him.

Thanks for all the replys - I have been playing poker for about 2 months now, mainly Free rolls - Got a few small pay outs - so I put $50 in FTP - Lost $35 so far after about 1.6K hands Some bad play and bad beats from those nasty overcards hitting.
I play FRNL .10 The players seem bloody tight at this level, well I think they are to me anyway...........probably just me..... cuz.............I SUCK BIGTIME AT POKER.

So as I reckon FT is a unlucky card room for me, ha ha. I have now shoved another $50 in absolute poker and will play NLFR .10.

If I may I would like to start a new thread showing how I get on. So you TOP poker guys can tell me where I am going wrong. PLEASE

I will post sample hands and show my profit and loss daily. I will end up playing most days for a couple of hours starting on Sunday night. Wish me luck - now I will not tell you my username as i know you all would like to play a BIG fish like me .................easy money.

Cheers,

Paul

Good luck with it Paul, i would say that FTP isn't a great place to start, even at the low levels they seem obsessed with 3betting in both short and full ring games and seems like they all live on 2+2 so although beatable there's easier places to play. Pkr, ipoker are two sites i'd recommend as people are looser at the lower levels unlike at FTP as you say which is full of nits.

Did you hear about the Absolute poker scandal last year?

Basically Absolute was a room set up by a small number of private investors (as opposed to the PLC's that are out there) - one of the guys who set it up kept a "superuser" account that allowed him to see all his opponents hole cards - it was identified beyond any reasonable doubt, yet Absolute continued to deny it and tried covering it up - eventually they just couldn't cover it up any more and they came clean and admitted it. They refused to deal with the people involved and maintain a secretive and covert ownership structure - Absolute is the Pokerroom I now trust less than any other.......

Have a look at this thread - Absolute Poker Rigged - I'd suggest you put your money elsewhere

Would definitely agree with PKR in particular as being a loose, and fairly 'easy' site compared to the majority of them out there (at least at low levels).

Money is now in - they should be squeaky clean now though - shouldn't they.

I played Limit on VC which is a ipoker site. Did OK - well I was in profit at the low stakes after a couple of thousand hands. So bloody boring playing limit, so thought I would do NL - wish i had stuck at limit now

I confess I'm not fully up to date with the latest, but the last I knew - Absolute were evading allegations so far as they could, avoiding a proper investigation/audit, maintaining the secrecy over their ownership structure and taking no legal action over those responsable (who, for all we know, are still the people who ultimately own Absolute) - they exist in Costa Rica and are regulated by the Kawahanke Gaming Commission, a combination that seems to have been ineffectual and provide no protection for the consumer - all I could be confident about is that those responsable have learnt how not to get caught so easily.....
