| Thanks for the link GotaFancy. That'll come in handy. I see what your saying about raising pre flop, i think thats a weakness in my game that i need to look at. I'll play a few hands in the morning, see how i get on. Thanks again for the advice lads . |

| Wizard - I'm a relative newbie in poker terms but i would say No & No. There is no real way of detecting a bot as it plays the percentages of a game to get a profit. Alot of people don't use the chat, so you can't even tell by saying "nh bot" and waiting for a reply - some "real" players are playing 2/3 tables at the same time and don't have time to chat. Ways to beat them? Don't waste time on this. If you are playing against a bot it is probably trying to make a few dollars every 20 hands or so. Don't worry about how it plays the game, just play your own game as you would against any opponent. Not much help - but thats how i see it. |

| The general feeling too is that people who use bots will do so at the higher stakes, in order for them to maximise their profit. ![]()

| a bot is a robot - i.e. a computer opponent rather than a human opponent

| moFace - is one of the better bonuses out there though - and with the fish on their $0.10/$0.05 you should be able to make money with pretty basic TAG.

| I'm very new to poker. I've only recently started to play on a regular(ish) basis the last month or two. At the moment, I only play with 'play' money, but one of my friends let me loose on a tourny using their money and I came third winning then some money. The problem I'm having at the moment, using 'play' money is that my choice of action can sometimes be poor, having a negative effect on any profits. So my question is basically what can I do to help me know I'm making the correct decision? I know about pot odds, implied pot odds, outs and discounted outs but you don't get very long (that is if you don't want to be booted from the table) to make a choice, so I end up playing on instict. When I ask this question, I'm talking about it specifcally applying to ring games. In tourny's I can usually make third of second fairly easily by playing TAG and waiting for the rest to go all in and lose. I'm gonna start reading a Matthew Hilger book my mate lent me, so maybe I'll also pick up some things in that. Hope you understand what I'm asking and thanks in advance. |

| Hiya Clotty. First thing I'd say is, don't use the play money tables. These are (imo) only good to help you learn the rules of the game you're playing and to get used to the layout of the site that you are using. If you want to learn then freerolls are your next step. This post by Gotafancy? covers 'stages of development'. You seem to be at stage 2. This thread here explains my journey from novice, and how I managed to accrue the start of a bankroll as well as the start of my poker education. Now I have to stress that I really wouldn't recommend ring games to any novice poker player. I don't/can't play those yet, but that isn't my reason. I'll leave a ring game player to answer if you are definite that you want to play cash games. ![]()

| Cheers for that reply! I reckon I will go for freerolls now and I'm even beginning to think Poker with play money teaches bad habbits as people don't play seriously as they would with their own $$$ on the line. Once again cheers. |
