And be as brutal as you think is necessary. I want to improve, and taking comments/criticism on board is important.

I am posting this hand from tonight's focus game as comments by Steve following the hand when I said my hand gave me the distinct impression that he was p'd off at my move. Then leading me to question whether this was a fishy move and something I shouldn't repeat.

My thoughts during the hand were:

Pre-Flop - 5s aren't a great starting hand from my position, but I made a bet of 175 aiming to knock any weak hands out of the picture. If it folded back round to me, then I would have been happy with stealing the blinds. If I was called then I hoped either to hit the flop or outplay a caller(s) post-flop. If I had been re-raised pre-flop I was more than prepared to lay them down.

Post-Flop - I was happy with the table and happy with my cards. I made the 275 bet, and then when Steve'O reraised I thought I was ahead... just a gut feeling, I thought he had 2 big overcards... and was confident in my shove. If I was wrong about him not having an overpair then I still had the safety net of an open-ended straight draw

I wasn't pissed off with you Samba I was pissed off with myself for trying to bluff you when I've never come across you before.

I just thought I'd have a pop as I noticed you'd raised form early position a couple of times and thought I could get you off aq ak or maybe even a med pair.

I should have just put you allin preflop with my AK. That is overplaying AK but I don't mind doing this in the low buyin tournies. If I'm busted by a better hand so be it.

If I had raised with 55 in your position I probably would have played it the same way on the flop.

You have 40xBB in your stack, as do most opponents.
The blinds are not worth winning.
I think your goal here therefore is to play for implied odds - you have about a 1 in 8 chance of flopping a 5 for trips, which can give you the chance to win a large pot against someone. You want to see a flop as cheaply as possible therefore (on the occasions when you do hit you need to win, on average, about 8 times more than you spend on the hand).

I dont mind the raise too much, for deception value, however I probably limp most of the time (and call a standard raise) - if your raise is reraised, then you probably have to fold as you've lost your implied odds.

I think your post flop play is fine You must consider a good chance of about 10 outs, with two cards to come - you're 40% to win a showdown - add in some fold equity because you are the aggressor and I think you're positive ev

If you want "constructive feedback" though - I think the hand you were eliminated on was poorly played. You were short stacked, and put in a standardish raise for half your stack in earlyish position with a moderate holding - I dont think that was a valid option for you - at that stage it was all in or fold (I cannot remember the specifics of the hand I'm afraid).

I would agree with GAF on the first hand, 55 in early position would not generally merit a raise here (unless you're just trying to mix it a bit) however you got out of jail on the flop and played it fine post flop.

I like the way you played first hand, is definitely a push or fold scenario imo, calling is too passive.
