Question bodog - $1 rebuy for WSOP Main Event $12k package

This is the first post I have originated, so I hope it makes sense.

I had a go yesterday at bodog's 8pm tourney, $1 rebuy for WSOP ME $12k package, but feel that I played it drastically wrong.

I need to suss out my tactics for that mad 1st hour when there are stacks of all-ins with mediocre hands. Should I just budget $5 to $10 to throw away on mad unsuccessful gambles if necessary? I think I was far too cautious in that first hour, and should have been prepared to go bust or below my starting 1,000 chips so that I could reload once or twice.

At the first break, I had 4,200 chips, added on a further 2,000 for a second $1, but was still only at average chip stack. We only had 624 starters (a maximum of 5000 allowed, but registration is only open for 3 hours, so that might explain the low number), and about 470 left at the first break, with 2.8m in chips. Assuming most remaining players bought the add-on of 2,000 chips for $1, the others averaged a total of 3 sets of chips apart from that (original plus 2 reloads).

Do I just need to be fairly reckless in the first hour in order to get to the 10,000+ chip mark at the end of the first hour?

I know it's a bit like a snowball's chance in hell, but a $12k package with an overall buy-in of about $2.4k in cost seems pretty good to me.

There is another tourney tonight at 8pm, so tips today would be appreciated.

Cheers

For what it is worth, I would put aside $3-5 for the tourney, rebuy immediately to give yourself maximum chips, play normal TAG, but push very hard (even all-in) with big hands as you will probably get callers with Ace-rag, two broadway cards, or a low pair.
Unless you have a gigantic stack, take the add-on, and there you go, straight to Vegas!!
