| Early thoughts for Round 13 There are some good games this weekend and plenty of value prices if you can manage to land a winner, with no real standouts unless you consider the Mariners away to the Knights as a good thing. Queensland/Melbourne Queensland have had a change of Coach and this usually inspires a team to perform better and at $3-55 they are good odds as they tend to play well at home. Melbourne are unbeaten away from home this season and will have Vargas and Muscat back in defence this week, and considering they are undefeated and belted the Roar 4-1 lst time, then Victory is probably good value too. Perth/Jets The Glory have a great head to head record against the Jets and this will be an interesting match as Perth welcome back Lazaridis and Colosimo which will tighten them up no end. Newcastle Jets have been on fire with wins over Adelaide and the Mariners and a good draw with Sydney, and at $2-75 they are pretty good odds for a form side. Knights/Mariners The Mariners are way too short here for mine and NZ have also had their Coach changed through the week which may impact they way they play this game. The Knights have beaten Adelaide and Queensland at home and are a hard side to work out what how they are going to play. You would think the away side would win this but not at that price. Sydney/Adelaide The clash of the round between two of the A League’s best teams. Adelaide have been quite brilliant after they lost their first 2 games. Sydney hammered then in Adelaide last time out when Carbone inspired Sydney to a 4-1 win. Sydney have a top head to head record against Adelaide and would be slight favourites here at home. It will depend on what players are on the park, both sides have returning star players in recent weeks. |

Queensland a good team and are even better at home, while Frank Farina is a very good coach who coached the National team for 6 years and was moments away from getting them to the world cup on two occasions. This will be a danger match for Melbourne for sure who are 100% on the road. I was at the last match where Melb won 4-1 and the scoreline flattered them, they received 2 penalties which maybe shouldnt of been given and the other 2 Melb goals can be put down to bad defending. So will certainly be a good game and one i am looking forward to watching | |

| I'm pretty surprised about the $2.20 offered for Melbourne .. My own rules on soccer betting decree that I won't be on the Victory tonight, but for those degenerates who haven't banned themselves from playing away teams in soccer then the visitors are value imo .. The only reason the line makers have set such generous odds for Melbourne is the old "new coach first week" chestnut .. Who knows, Farina's influence may suddenly cure the Roar's inability to score goals, but I don't buy it .. Melbourne is a superior team and I think they'll sneak away with it .. ![]() I was just wondering what some of your reasons were for not backing away teams at all. I agree it is a good idea to take it out of the equation, and if it results in you winning more than you lose on the punt then that's a good thing. I don't mind betting away teams as a rule as they are generally better odds when away from home, and realistically a grounds a ground when all is said and done, the game still has to be played. Home ground advantage has always been prevalent in Soccer though and some teams just can't win away. The A League seems to have a bit of a home ground advantage this year, whereas last year it was the opposite. I agree with you about the value on Melbourne. Around $2-00 for a team that has only lost one game. regains 2 strong defenders and is unbeaten away, is definitely value in my book. | |

| Simmonds at the NZ helm The New Zealand Knights have appointed Barry Simmonds as interim manager of the club. Simmonds was only recently appointed to the newly created director of football role to help outgoing manager Paul Nevin with the football operations at the Knights, but after 10 days in the country he is now in charge. Simmonds believes he will bring 'fresh energy' to the position because of his recent arrival in New Zealand. "Paul would be the first to say it was a hard slog for him and I haven't been caught up in all that," Simmonds said. The former director of scouting at Bolton was present when Nevin announced to the squad that he had been dismissed and he was amazed by the loyalty of the players. |

| The A League has played 12 rounds so far and I thought I would do a comparison between the first 6 rounds and the last 6 rounds to see who is improving with regards to goal shots and conversion. The Figures on the right show the difference between each 6 rounds and as can be seen the Mariners are the big improvers with their conversion rate going from 1 in 33 to a now healthy 1 in 11. Adelaide have also improved in shots, goals and conversion rate. Blue is good and Red is not so good
