| I think St. Mirren, Killie and Hearts all represent value. St. Mirren are strong defensively, murdered Motherwell in the Scottish Cup last season and will be right up for it as it's their first SPL home game for a good while. They'll also be unveiling the First Division flag and will have a large crowd in attendance and thus a decent atmosphere. The jury's out on 'Well this season as they've a new manager and haven't improved their squad much from last season - it might even be weaker with Hammel leaving, no Leitch (although out for most of last season) and Scott McDonald wanting away. They were lucky to hold Rangers to 2-1 last week and didn't create many chances, although time will tell if that's because Rangers are much improved or because 'Well are poorer. Killie have much the same side that performed consistently last season, especially at home. Rugby Park is always tough to get a result at for a non-OF club and Hibs might struggle for goals this season without O' Connor and Riordan. Hearts and Celtic could go either way. Hearts still have Hartley injured and now that Skacel has left, they're weaker in midfield than last season. However, Hearts at Tynecastle are a tough proposition and are rock solid at the back there (no goals conceded in the first half of any of the 19 SPL games there last season). Celtic, in contrast look poor at the back and are likely to give away chances which might mean that Hearts can sneak this. Possibly the trip to Japan will affect Celtic also, although I believe it was a second string that went out there. |

| Thought id share all of Tartantips Previews with you all since i have an hour to spare .Not very detailed Previews though, just the basics but may help some of you. Also i'll add a few of the Free Tips that were added to my site though some of these are for other Leagues outside SPL. Aberdeen v Inverness Aberdeen midfielder Scott Severin returns to the squad for the Bank of Scotland Premier League visit of Inverness Caledonian Thistle. The Scotland international underwent knee surgery just three weeks ago but has returned ahead of schedule though he will only be on the Subs bench at best for now. Defender Zander Diamond misses out as he serves the second game of a two-match ban, the young defender is a big loss to the Dons which may leave them weak at the back. Inverness squad will look much the same as last week except striker Rory McAllister returning to Squad after suspension. Inverness were excellent away from Home last Season so I'm slightly surprised how good the odds are for them to grab a win, though taking Inverness +0.5 will be safer option @ best odds 1.95(decimals) 19/20(Fractions) Kilmarnock v Hibs Kilmarnock continue without injured trio Gary Locke, Simon Ford and Alan Combe for the visit of Hibernian. Manager Jim Jefferies will add Scotland Under-19 international midfielder Jamie Adams to his squad after his success in blooding so many young players so far at Killie. Hibernian welcome Ivan Sproule, David Murphy and goalkeeper Zbigniew Malkowski back from suspension. Striker Steven Fletcher is also back from Scotland Under-19 international duty but faces a late fitness test on an ankle problem. Both these Clubs are very close in quality after Hibs lost many of their Star players last Season, Hibs look weakened this Season particularly after losing former Captain Gary Caldwell so Kilmarnock will think the possibility of winning this tie is extremely likely. Kilmarnock Odds of 6/4(Fractions) 2.5(Decimal) being offered via SportingOdds looks generous though taking them on -0 Asian Handicap may be safer option. Rangers v Dundee Utd Rangers striker Kris Boyd returns from suspension and Chris Burke has been passed fit after an ankle injury, both though may find themselves on the bench after Gers team performed well last weekend without them.. Barry Ferguson and Ian Murray remain sidelined but new striker Filip Sebo is included in the squad after completing his move from Austria Vienna. Dundee United player-manager Craig Brewster will rest and have his place taken by striker Lee Miller. This is a high pressure match for Brewster after his Chairman publicly complaining about his poor tactics and selections after last weekends poor result. New signing Christian Kalvenes is set for his debut, while Scotland Under-19 international Greg Cameron returns. Odds on Rangers are extremely low at 1/6, 1.16 (Decimal Odds) though the odds are fair when you consider how poor Dundee Utd have been for a long time now. 5 Top Bets for weekend 05/08/06 - 06/08/06 Tip 1: St Johnstone to Win Scottish 1st Division. The whole of Scotland has been carried away with the joy of tiny Gretna winning a place in the Scottish 1st Division after being in the 3rd Division only 2 years ago, Gretna made most gamblers vast profits over that time with their incredible win rate but it may be time for Gretna run to end. The Bookies have Gretna at Odds around 1.90(Decimals) 10/11(Fractions) but this is an extremely tough league and with Gretna keeping faith in most of the same players who won them promotion last Season then i then i think Odds are far too low on Gretna. I'll be backing St.Johnstone who have been building a decent team for years now and expect to challenge at top this time. Our Tip: St Johnstone to Win Scottish 1st Division @ odds 5(Decimal Odds) 4/1(Fractions) Tip 2: John Hartson to be Top Scorer in Championship It was a surprise Celtic let John Hartson go after him consistently banging in the Goals in the SPL and in Europe so Championship defenders now have the worry of how to handle the big man. With West Brom having a solid team and not losing too many players after relegation then they will be hoping to be in the Promotion hunt and if Hartson is fit then i fully expect him to be Top Scorer. Odds on this an more generous that i expected so its worth a small bet. Our Tip: John Hartson to be Top Scorer in Championship @ odds 17(Decimal Odds) 16/1(Fractions) Tip 3: Aberdeen v Inverness Ct in Scottish SPL. Sat 05th Aug 15:00 KO Aberdeen are very short odds here which i don't think represents any value for the DOns considering they always struggle to score goals and because this is a tricky match against ICt who were excellent in Away fixtures last Season. Last 2 times these Clubs have faced each other at Pittodrie it has finished 0-0, i wouldn't be too surprised if this came up again so Odds of 12/5 look Good to me for the draw. Our Tip: Aberdeen v Inverness to be a Draw @ odds 3.4(Decimal Odds) 12/5(Fractions) Tip 4: Auxerre v Valenciennes in French Ligue 1, Sat 5th August Auxerre were a Solid Bet when at Home for most gamblers last Season and this should continue on Saturday when they meet Promoted side Valenciennes. Promoted sides almost always suffer defeat in the opening League encounter with only 2 Wins from newly Promoted teams in 26 occasions. Auxerre Odds are low but fair but Betting them to Win half Time/Full Time gives a decent price. Our Tip: Auxerre HT/FT @ odds 2.4(Decimal Odds) 7/5(Fractions) Tip 5: Coming Soon on Tartantips Hope this helps some of you find a winner for weekend. I done Spellcheck now so it should all be OK. | I really hope some of you guys used the Previews and Free Tips i posted from Tartantips. We tipped Aberdeen v Inverness would be a draw at Odds 12/5! We said in our Previews also that Inverness on Asian Handicap was a great Bet, we said in our Kilmarnock v Hibs Preview that Kilmarnock at 4/6 or just under Even on -0 Asian Handicap was a good Bet. And our Long Term Bet on J.Hartson to be top scorer in Championship, he scored 2 Goals in the 1st day of Season today so expect the odds to of droped heavily. I never stated all this just to brag, just to tell you all to keep an eye for the Previews and Free Tips we post as we are usually profitable, particularly in the SPL as this is the Home League of the majority of Tartantips. Hope you all had a Great Day and Won a few ££££'s |

| SPL Previews from Tartantips.com Hearts v Celtic This is the most important match of the week by far in the SPl with Champions Celtic visiting ambitious Hearts. Both Clubs had a hectic week with Hearts being away playing in Champions League Qualifier which they drew 0-0 to give them a comfortable win of 3-0 on aggregate, though even though this was a great achievement for Hearts their eccentric Owner Romanov was said to be angered with the poor display and is considering sacking his 4th Manager in 1 Year! Celtic were away in Japan playing a friendly match which surely was a poor decision to schedule just before a big match, in Japan Celtic were embarrassed to be beaten 3-0 though it has to be said they did only play a few of their usual starting 11. The only new injury concern of note for either club is Kenny Miller for Celtic who picked up a hamstring injury in a training session on the midweek trip to Japan and is a doubt for the game at Tynecastle. Though Hearts are still missing Star player and Captain P.Hartley who has been our injured for a while now. Celtic come to Tynecastle looking for the win as they have an excellent record here of 16 Wins in last 21 meetings though this Hearts side is the best they have had for many a year so things may be different. Bookmakers make Celtic best odds of 11/8(Fractions) 2.38 (Decimals)favorites which many Celtic fans will back as it rare to get Celtic at such odds in an SPL match. A better angle may be to bet on the number of Goals in the match, i see this being a low scoring affair as Hearts have a consistent defence with a great Goalkeeper and Celtic Boss Strachan has his defenders warned not to slip up again like they did in Japan. Under 2.5 Goals in available in many Bookies at Odds around 1.8(Decimals) 10/11 (Fractions) |

| You want to give some reasoning for that Curly ?? Hearts have been solid pre season, unlike Celtic who have been poor, I personally think that Celtic haven't done that well with their new signings, are defo worse that 2 years ago. Your obviously a Celtic fan, are you just being hopeful ?? ps, I don't disagree with you at all, just looking for more info |

| celtic have not been firing all cylinders IMO , i still don't rate them as well yet . Hearts we all know have been in decent form pre-season wise . i rather go with the form team rather than one whom we are not sure whether they will turn up or not . Hearts looks to be a better bet IMO . lvl handicap or +1/4 handicap for hearts looks a gd bet .

| Bookings over 45 points in the celtic game is my bet of the weekend. There are always yellows in this fixture, often a red. I dont see this one being any different.Id expect some heavy tackles going in on both sides and ref Kenny Clark being left with no option but to punish. 15 points bookings over 45 with william hills. Also, I was worried about celtics pre season at first but having seen them last week against Killie I'm happy enough to discount it. Of course I could be (and I usually am ) completely wrong but if you just take one tip ever off me, make it this one. G'luck. | |

| I just hope it ends in a draw!!! Rangers played some magic stuff yesterday, if we keep creating this many chances then sooner or later we should be banging them in like the good old days. I don't think Celtic's trip to Japan will have helped them today like...

| Only 3 yellows im afraid Glad Hearts got the winner as that offside call was very very suspect. I wonder if Gary Caldwell still thinks anyone taking Rangers for the league aint got a clue about football. ![]() |
