Default League of Wales 9-11 Dec 05

Right guys, aliando and myself are going to see if we can revive some interest in the much maligned League of Wales with this and future threads. Information can be sketchy but hes from South Wales and I'm originally from the more Welsh North so we'll hopefully be able to provide some useful information for you guys.
If the interests there then we'll continue, we're not going to be putting in the effort for no response.
Hope it takes off

There can be some decent value in this league lads so ANYONE with any info/knowledge please add it here and lets make this work!

Early thoughts here swing towards Carmarthen and Rhyl - will add more towards the weekend.

Bangor City v Haverfordwest

Not too sure what's going on at the club I used to watch when I was a kid! Manager Peter Davenports resigned on Sunday following the clubs 4-1 thumping at Rhyl at the weekend. Mel Jones will fill the void left by Davenport for the time being. Their are rumours of cash problems at Farrar Road and if thats the case there could be players leaving due to not being paid. A sad state of affairs for the biggest fan base in the League of Wales.
Haverfordwest managed by ex Wrexham player Deryn Brace are sitting comfortably in midtable. They've had good away wins at higher placed sides recently in Llanelli and Newtown and they can take advantage of the turmoil at Farrar Road by winning and continuing their steady rise up the table.

Haverfordwest 4/10 @ 4.0 bet365

Connahs Quay Nomads v Newi Cefn Druids

A relegation dogfight up in Deeside on Friday night. Both sides occupy the bottom 2 places and the Nomads can climb off the bottom for me. Their form of late is showing signs of improvement, they've suffered just the one loss in their last 4 games and have been unlucky to lose as many as they have with 3 losses in October by the single goal. They had a good home win 3-0 over Airbus last time at home and they followed that up with a 2-1 win at Aberystwyth with a late penalty claiming the points.
The Druids have conceded a few goals of late 17 in 5 games and have gone 6 games without a win since winning 3-0 at home to Newtown and they remain winless on the road.

Connahs Quay Nomads 5/10 @ 1.66 bet365

Cwmbran v Aberystwyth

Cwmbran former winners of this competition can bounce back from their 5-1 humbling at Porthmadog by beating out of sorts Aberystwyth on Friday night. Aber have gone 5 games without a win since thumping Welshpool 6-2 at home in mid October and lost to the bottom side Connahs Quay last time at home albeit with a late penalty for the visitors. Cwmbran beat Connahs Quay 2-1 at home last time they played at home and had to come from behind to do so.

Cwmbran 5/10 @ 1.72 bet365

Carmarthen v Grange Quins

For me this stinks of a home banker. Carmarthen are in good form and have been rewarded for a good 2-1 win at Bangor in the FAW Premier Cup with a plum tie home to Cardiff City. Their form of late is impressive with just the 1 loss in 8 games in all competitions. Grange Quins have had some humpings of late and are dropping like a stone down the table.4 of their last 5 games have been as follows, 0-5 H to Welshpool, 0-7 A to TNS, 1-5 A to Bangor City, 0-5 H to Caersws. Somehow in amongst them hammerings they won at 2nd placed Port Talbot 1-0 thus inflicting their only defeat of the season!!! The clubs in turmoil following merger talks with Bridgend and as a result manager Paul Giles quit as did 5 players including key striker Chris Summers.

Carmarthen 10/10 @ 1.4 bet365

TNS v Caernarfon Town

TNS are 100% at home 5-0-0 and only conceded 1 goal whilst scoring 19. Impressive stuff. Caernarfon are struggling near the bottom and are winless although they have drawn 3 out of the 4 games away from the Oval. Their defeat was at crisis club Cardiff Grange Quins 4-1! They've now gone 9 games without a win and the last place you need to go to rectify that record is full timers TNS.
TNS havent conceded a goal in the league since Sept 17th!!
Their defence is supreme and they're banging in goals 26 in 6 games and one of those was a 0-0 draw with Rhyl. No value in the home win and the HT/FT is hardly value but it should come in.

TNS HT/FT 10/10 @ 1.3 bet365

Haverfordwest 4/10 @ 4.0 bet365

interesting - my initial thoughts were swinging towards a possible home win - Bangor seem to improving of late but without that real feel of consistency. They have won their last 4 home games and appear to be scoring much more freely. Bangor have not failed to score at home this season and only lost the two games at home following their early-season European jaunt. The journey from Haverfordwest to Bangor is not an easy one and sometimes these crappy journeys can have a negative effect on players.

But if Bangor have lost their manager, there's suddenly a new angle. He's leaving as he feels he cannot take the club further - just as he's due to receive the manager of the month award for November! Mel jones takes over and is already part of the set-up so hopefully this transition will be as smooth as possible.

Haverfordwest have managed to win their last two away games and at better opposition but have turned in some poor performances prior to that away from home. Also, they have only played five homes so far so we are yet too see a real picture of their potential away. Last year they did manage to pick up 28 points from 51 on the road and also of interest did very well at the clubs in the north westpicking up points in most grounds. A 1-1 draw in this fixture last year helped Haverfordwest take 4th spot, 4 pts behind Bangor (when things were going well).

I'll hold back money until closer to the weekend but much will depend upon the players reaction to this and whether the rumours of players leaving are solid or not. Have to admit that the odds of 4.00 for Haverfordwest is tempting though given current circumstances! May cover it with the draw.

There's still some gut instinct pushing towards a Bangor win at the moment tho...

I hope Bangor win but I just feel they're not worth the risk at the moment due to the turmoil around.
Its a sorry state of affairs in regards to Bangor City Al. The new ground due to be built by Britannia Bridge is delayed and delayed. Farrar Road is to be honest, a tip and thats kind! I would like to see the club stay in the city but the council own it and want to put shops in there as you can imagine. The council say Bangor will not be homeless so until they build the new ground they stay put. They're hoping to have it ready for the 2007 season, it will comprise a pitch, a main stand (to accommodate 600) incorporating function rooms and changing facilities etc, terracing (to accommodate 2,400), floodlighting and press rooms. A floodlit training pitch and parking will also be provided. Te developers who get the current site will have to build the ground to that specification so I'm led to believe. If Bangor want more, they'll have to pay for it.

I hate hearing stories like this as the stadium issues can threaten the clubs future - i played down Jenner Park not long ago - what a waste of a stadium - the loss of Barry was massive to the LoW. The old Barry team v the present TNS would be a great advert for the Low but at the moment Rhyl are arguably the closest to TNS and aren't of the same standard. Bangor and Aberystwyth should also be putting out good sides.

The FAW need to look at constant strengthening of this league - it really would be a shame to see it stagnate or fail due to lack of decent clubs. It would benefit the league if english (or cardiff/swansea/wrexham/chester/shrewsbury) could forge links like man utd/antwerp in order to give younger players first team action and provide the LoW with more quality up-and-coming youngsters - would benefit everyone.

I'm in full agreement with you here - I would've looked towards a possible Carmarthen win here without the background info. The big stink apparently comes from the chairman who promised big things. Brought in Paul Giles who managed to upset the current players and bring in his own boys and they did really well. But the big sponsership that was promised in order to steam the Grange ship into Europe never materialised and left the boat stranded. The result is Grange have no paddle as players also desert over non-payments. Apparently their last drubbing saw Grange field predominantly teenagers and no short-term change is in sight.

I made a nice profit off them last week with Caersws 6/4 but those prices may not be available again for some time. However 1.4 is still enough to make this my bet of the weekend, so much so I've already lumped on!
